Interviews: Eciton
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Eciton from Denmark. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
In the context of deaths and thus change in the lineup, it seemed like a good time to change the
name. We encountered the name in the Guinness Book of Records. Agreed after we read that Eciton
ants had eaten a local cop, in South America, because he wanted to protect the city from their
migration. Leaves weren't enough, but having a piece of a cop, that’s the deal.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We've been playing in different bands since 1992. It's never been a question. It's been death metal
since it started in the '80s. A good alternative to a compromised life. You can hear this music if you
want or you can fuck off.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Some of us knew each other thru friends. Thomas and Jesper (vocal) played in a band in 1993-1994
No one knew Peter before, but after having seen naked pictures on the net, we knew it was him.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Vokal: At the moment for me it is Infant Annihilator. Those boys have it going... for sure.
T.Guitar: I have most records with Napalm Death.
Drums: I know all the shu-bi.dua lyrics.
Bass: Everything from Norway except the girls.
K.Guitar: Well, at the moment it would be Shadow of Intent or Paul Wardingham, but there are a
lot of awesome bands out there so the favorite changes constantly.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our songs is about politics, on the left hand side. All the bull coming from our parliaments, filtered
with spin, with one agenda… to turn your head around, so you can’t find the truth and really
understand what is right. I think books have been written since the beginning of time, about keeping
the public in anxiety, so they react with fear. Is that what we are doing???
Music comes from within.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in Copenhagen at “Underværket” in March on a festival. We are kind of there
house band and has been a while. We have concentrated our energy on making this coming album.
The one after “Suspension Of Disbelief”. Two albums in one year gives you no time for live shows.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would really like to go to all the open-air festivals, as possible. There are a lot and we would
like to go to all of them. Actually, don’t care that much, coz we just like to play and go everywhere.
We would really like to go to Italy where our label comes from and show that Danish death metal
kicks ass.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
There are so many cool death metal bands at the moment. The scene has been going on for so long
now, that we have old bands who formed the style and there are new incredible technical bands. But
we can select a few. I would say Nile, Napalm Death, Animals As Leaders, Cattle Decapitation,
Brutal Truth, Cytotoxin.
9. Whom not?
That answer will be too short, I think. Alone!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I think that everyone the first time going on stage worries. You don’t have any idea what awaits
you. You don’t know if your music has the power you think it has. Normally everything goes well,
but it depends on how much you rehearse as always. Total fright no, but ordinary anxiety is
motivating.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Again, there are so many bands through the years. I can’t put a name on one band. We maybe hear a
style, a feeling, in one band and the next day you are on to a new band. But there is also a way of
playing your instrument. Everyone has their own way of hitting the strings, drums, every vocalist
has their own sound. You have your own barrier as well. We made a deal in Eciton a few years
back. We know that all of us wants to play death metal. Therefore, we play what people brings with
them. If there is a problem, when we can play the idea to the fullest, we will then change it. This
way you are playing things, that first time you heard it, though agghh. It’s like explaining how
cheese tastes. You don’t know before you taste it. So back to your question…. I don’t know.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Once in Aalborg there was a fan who asked, after we played, if he could get an autograph and stay
at my place if he moved to Copenhagen. Then I could teach him how to play guitar.
What the hell…. NO! I knew the metal fan was a bit special, but this is way past.
13. What do you think of your fans?
It is so cool to see folks/fans come to our show especially if you can recognize them after a while.
“This guy was at our show last week”. That’s so cool. You know fans are the ones who gives you a
cheer every time you meet them. They expect at least the same as last time, so they keep you at your
best. This is both ways. It is so honorable that folks want more of your music and therefore we love
these guys.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site looks great. It´s awesome that you promote core bands, including the less known. But of
course there isn’t enough Eciton yet. We are working on it as we speak.
15. Something add?
These next two years we will release two albums. One coming on the 6 th of march. In June we are
going to Italy to record 11 new songs. They are almost done, only the sharpening of the edges needs
to be done. But the figure of the album is complete. We are looking so much forward to these next
years. We have made music for so long that we can’t wait to present for all you guys. The music has
off course developed since 2010 where the album “A Scent of Veracity” came out. This next one
has some new things and a lot more speed, so the direction is up at this time.
We hope to see a lot of you guys out there. We will come with a tour plan when we have been to
Italy. So, watch out the angry Danes are coming and not by ship this time.
Cheers and thank you for giving Eciton your time.
