Interviews: Vorstellan

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Alternative Rock/Grunge band Vorstellan from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where does the band name come from?

The name of the band is a twist on the word ‘Vorstellen’. The word came from a German website which featured ‘Vorstellen’ as its word of the day, the word means to imagine so we changed it to make it unique to ourselves.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We enjoy this genre and we have all been influenced by it as a band in one way or another. We’re influenced by the 90’s - noughties era so we wanted to shape our sound around that era.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Matty and Jacob met under the same employment where their friendship blossomed over their mutual passion for Music. John and Matty met and became good friends at Secondary School and then Jacob and John became friends when Matty introduced them to each other and not long after John joined the band.

4. Each band members favourite band / Artist?

JOHN - Zac Brown

JACOB - Placebo

MATTY - Silent Planet

5. Who or what inspires us to write our songs?

Our music is very influenced by the struggles and hardships we have all dealt with in our personal lives. We talk openly about our struggles in hope that others can find comfort in our music and know that they are not alone. We personally use the creation of our music as an artistic outlet.

6. Last Gig?

Our last gig was the o2 Academy in Newcastle where we supported Twister in July 2019.

7. Where would you like to play?

We’d love to play some UK festivals such as Reading and Leeds but we also think it would be pretty cool to play at Redrocks in Colorado.

8. Who would you like to support?

There are many bands we’d personally like to support but we’d definitely like the opportunity to support Bush.

9. Bands you would not like to support?

There’s nobody we personally wouldn’t want to do a support slot for; We’re personally grateful for all opportunities to play a support slot and understand the importance of these and the opportunities a support slot can bring to fellow artists so an opportunity is always appreciated.

10. Do you suffer from stage fright?

We haven’t personally suffered from stage fright but we’re always nervous about people's reaction when playing the opening song of a set. It’s natural to feel nervous and we’re sure everyone gets nervous at some point even if it’s playing on the same stage as some of your idols have played on before.

11. Tips for those who suffer from stage fright?

Our bassist John’s personal tip for stage fright prevention is to chew gum (chewing gum) because this is something he personally found really helpful. Our Drummer does this too sometimes and they both find it helps. Understandably it’s not a tip someone who has vocal responsibilities can do but hopefully it’s a tip that might work for fellow musicians too. Our Drummer Matt says that having self-confidence and believing that you’re good at what you do can also help with any doubt/nerves whilst performing.

12. What bands have inspired you the most?

Favourite bands Placebo, Vex Red, Silverchair, Slipknot, and Gojira are some of our favourites. As individuals we are fans of a wide genre of music.

13. Weirdest thing a fan has ever asked?

We’ve been lucky enough to not be asked for anything weird to be honest.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think your site is pretty awesome and it’s great that there’s another fantastic site online to support bands and the music industry like you do and we’d like to add that we appreciate you taking time out of your day for this interview.

15. Something to Add?

We’re going to be on tour throughout the UK in March 2020 with Crosslight. We’re also glad to announce that we’ll be releasing our debut album ‘Encephalon’ on the 8th May 2020. And we’re also going to be playing again with our friends in Auger in July 2020. Please check out our socials for updates about shows and our music.
