Interviews: GREEN ARROWS

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band, GREEN ARROWS, from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It wasn't planned, we must decide in a very quick time. It was the end of February of 1999, me (Pav, band's singer, editor's note), and other two friends were met in a rehearsal for playing some hardcore like we used to do for a couple of months and a date we had no band's name. We didn't think that those afternoons of fun will become something serious or that we had to perform live. Just to deny it, that afternoon one of the guys arrived at the meeting point telling us that he gave our availability to play at a party for the next Saturday. So, we were forced to decide on a band's name before (you can't go on stage without a name). After some quick discussion, we agreed on GREEN ARROWS. It is a very symbolic name: Green is the color associate with the "hope" and "life" and the Arrow is "the aim to hit the target" and "to be the tool of a cause". Merged together became "devolve the life for a cause (hit the target)"

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It's just a heritage of our city. When we were adolescents (around 1997-98-99), 3 HC bands native of Bolzano (our city) that were touring all across Europe and dozens of other "younger projects" that were trying to follow the path of one of those three bands. Then almost every Saturday night you can found one or more HC gig somewhere in the town, and so the sound that surrounded your "night hangovers" with a very high probability had to be hardcore.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I can say that Green Arrows was the vehicle that made us meet each others. Except for Marmo (rhythm guitarist - we attended the elementary school in the same classroom) with the other members, I made the knowledge meeting them at our concerts through the years. So we bounded a fraternal friendship before they enter Green Arrows; and that pushed us to make join them the project at the first opportunity we found.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We have all a different musical background, more than a band (the list would be huge) we can speak about styles I like a lot HC bands that digress to metalcore; Marmo is more on groove metal and thrash metal; Migue (lead guitarist) is very strange because he goes from Post Hardcore to Black Metal, Divi (bass player) liked a lot melodic hardcore and post-hardcore and Dave (drummer) listen at most nu-metal, crossover and new-.school HC

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The main inspiration source is the moment we are living. We don't give ears to stylish artistic inspirations, we like to let speak the street and our inner drives. Right in this period we are writing the 8th album and we can't say that there is since now no one album from ours that has the same atmosphere from another one. Abviously there is a thin line in the lyrics and in the music that links all our works together, but the moment we are living gives us the main insipration and tone for music and lyrics. You can have more instinctive and unreasonable contest in our first (wrote when we were 18 and 19 years old) and second album, that became more direct and compact in the third and fourth album, for evolving in more introspective and melancholic in the fifth and sixth, flowing in a concept album with a climax of intensity and envolvment in the seventh.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was in Budapest (Hungary), we were touring promoting our last album (Live.Love.Burn.Die), luckily it was the fore last gig just scheduled before this COVID shit. It was a great night, a good "dancer" under the stage, a very nice location and an awesome city (we love it when we have to play in Budapest).

7. Where would you like to act?

A common answer can be a name of a great festival.... well... we like te small pit, where you can live the gig's intimate experience with 300-400 guys under the stage, we don't like the dispersive locations. So, coming back to the question, we would to act in places that we never played before, starting from gig in we delete due COVID and we have to recover (one in Sweden) or we have to schedule from new (some in east Europe and "overseas").

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

With all my friends, we shared the stages in these 21 years of Green Arrows. We have an interesting project about this theme and we hope to define all aspects of the next months. Green Arrows is a "lifelong experience", and so, like your lives, you chose to share the time you have with the people which you love most.

9. Whom not?

With whom don't understand the spirit of a stage and sees the music as a competition. We love to play, tour, party and enjoy the gigs, there is no place for drama-divas, hood-starlets or music-schoolteachers.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Luckily we never had stage fright, when we were younger we were too excited to step on stage forgive a fuck to the fright, now that we are older we have to recover from the van travels and/or flights and we have no energy for fright ahahahah. Jokes aside, I can't remember stage frights, or if someone of the band had it, it was soo good to hide it. I don't like to wear the shoes of a teacher, but a small tip for beginners about the stage freight I want to give it. You have to be the first to enjoy the show. Love what you are doing. Don't give a damn if you commit some mistake. It's a party, not an essay about a musical institute. ENJOY YOUR SHOW!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands of our city: Last Man Standing, No Choice. Then we like to learn something from all the bands that we meet at the gigs where we play. Like from the song writings, we let us inspire from what we have around, catching and making our what we found interesting or exciting, whether if it comes from a band of "veterans" whether if it comes from a band of "rookies".

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There are a lot of weirdest things but here are two noteworthy experiences. The first was around 7-8 years ago, and a fan asked us to play for his exclusive private party. We thought it was "exclusive" was just a way of saying..... No man... it was a REALLY EXCLUSIVE private party.

He just rents a pub, as "temporary owner" forbade the entrance to all the attendance except him, the barmaid that has to serve our drinks, the sound engineer, and the band's girlfriends.

So, in the end, we played for 90 minutes just only for him...... that crazy m*th**f****er hahaha.

The second noteworthy experience wasn't asked by proper fun but from our fraternal friend and owner of a clothing company that endorses us. He organized an MMA event nearby Athens in Greece. We just played before in after-competition parties...

That time we were a little bit amazed when we reach the location (an old hangar.... beautiful) and we saw only the MMA octagon with the stands at the sides and no stage.

We didn't investigate too much and weary by the flight we just split between the backstage and the merch's desk. When they called us up on stage we just saw that all the instruments were mounted inside the cage on the octagon... Well... It was amazing! We hadn't the common physical contact with the "pit", but it was so peculiar that I liked every second of the show.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are fucking awesome. When we meet then "live" at our gigs is then always like a family reunion. Even if our fanbase is spread all across Europe, USA, Japan, South America, and South Africa and we can't tour so much as we wanted and so much as they deserve, they stay always in continuous touch with us through our social media profile. Thank God we have them!

14. What do you think of our site?

Great work man! Well made and well planned. The basic idea is spectacular and you have well developed. Please don't stop and go on so!!!

15. Something add?

First of all, I wish you all to stay healthy and patient. All of us will "set fire in the pit" sooner as you think. Said this, if you want to stay updated about our activities you can search GreenArrowsHC on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, VK, and Telegram.
