Interviews: On Hollow Ground

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band On Hollow Ground from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We heard the words whilst listening to a song. The meaning of the words held well with us and what to us, it represents.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We didn't go out to make the definitive "Metalcore" record. We simply wanted to write what we wanted to write. We aren't trying to be too technical, we went with the idea of us being able to provide the best live performance.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Whilst the members were aware of each other from the gigging scene, it did not take long for them to become best of friends. Around 2011/2012 we all became aware of each other playing in different bands on the local scene. Guitarist Ryan Scott and bassist Bob Howe actually had a jam session many years before the formation of the band but, nothing came of it. From there, things seemingly fell into place. Chris was a Drummer in a Band that we played with on the local Leeds scene who we quickly befriended.

4. Each band member favourite band?

JACK- Enter Shikari

JOE- Animals as Leaders

CHRIS- Thy Art is Murder

BOB- Guns n Roses

RYAN- Rick Astley

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our separate musical tastes combined to make songs that excite us.

6. Where was your last gig?

Bradford with a few of our favourite bands.

7. Where would you like to play?

Definitely overseas, Europe.

8. Who would you like to support?

Emmure, Chelsea Grin, Parkway Drive, Whitechapel.

9. Who not?

Blood on the Dance Floor and Lostprophets. Goes without saying really.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Make sure you get there early, get yourself in the right frame of mind and relax. Remember that there are less people there than you can fit in a portaloo.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Heart of a Coward, Born of Osiris, After the Burial, Stitches, Skepta.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A fan that had followed us from the start asked us to make an official OHG babygrow for their newborn baby. We were only too happy to oblige! Get those music tastes ruined before they can walk.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Even after 7 years of continued support, we are always shocked for the turn out and the effort some will go to get to our gigs. This sort of support is something that we never thought could be achievable when we started the band. They'll do, I suppose.

14. What do you think of our site?

It is refreshing to see a site that shows such commitment to the independent music scene however, we get more satisfaction out of PornHub.

15. Something to add?

Blood is Blood (Our Debut Album) is out on 17th July, which is coincidentally our guitarist Batty's birthday. Finally gives that date some importance.
