Interviews: Yanomamo

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Sludge Metal/Doom Metal band, Yanomamo, from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name Yanomamo came from the movie 70s horror film Cannibal Holocaust. Our original singer, Anthony, suggested the name & as we are all huge horror movie fans, we thought it was great & pretty original given that many band names in the stoner/doom/sludge scenes can be a bit generic at times.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

All the members of Yanomamo have been huge fans of the stoner/doom/sludge genres for many years & we've all played in other bands that also played this style. I think Yanomamo sounds like our collective influences melded together.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we all knew each other as we were all playing in other bands at the time we got together. Bands like Lomera, Mother Mars, Birdmouth & Rituals of the Oak

4. Each band member favourite band?

Tough question & too hard to narrow it down to one ... so we'll give you a few each that inspire the Yanomamo sound

Jason (guitars): 70s KISS, Earth, Bongzilla, Funkadelic, Black Flag, Iron Monkey

Clarence (bass): Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, AC/DC

Jack (drums): Black Sabbath, Bongzilla, Church of Misery

Scott (vocals): Pantera, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Sepultura, Slipknot,  David Bowie, Type O Negative

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Big riffs are the main inspiration ... Also, the awful state of the world we live in is a constant inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

In our hometown of Sydney, Australia at a great little bar called The Hideaway Bar.

7. Where would you like to act?

We've toured all over Australia & would love to play overseas - Japan, New Zealand, US, Europe etc ... make us an offer!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Anyone who will have us! Hahaha ... for me (Jason), I would love to share a bill with Church of Misery & Bongzilla.

9. Whom not?

We are happy to play shows with any bands as long as they are professional & supportive of our community as a whole.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We've all been doing this for so long now that its second nature. We all feel totally comfortable on stage doing our thing. I think that comes from practicing a lot individually & as a band & knowing your material inside & out.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

See question 4!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing too weird really ... I do find it weird anytime we get asked for an autograph ... hahaha ... Its cool, but a little weird

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love & appreciate anyone that likes our music. Without them, we don't exist. I am still totally blown away anytime someone buys our merch or goes out of their way to come to our shows. That's what makes it all worthwhile for me.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's really great! So much info on so many great underground bands from around the world. Your support & dedication does not go unnoticed by bands like us.

15. Something add?

We are really excited to be releasing our new EP 'No Sympathy for a Rat'. We can't wait to start playing shows to support its release. Hopefully, we can all do our bit to end this pandemic so live music can start happening again.
