Interviews: Chasing Apparitions
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Chasing Apparitions, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like
that?
The name for Chasing Apparitions was something that I saw on Tumblr a long time
ago & it just kind of stuck with me, it was something along the lines of “reverse album
titles” or “opposite song titles”. I’ve since tried to find the post, but to no avail, so maybe I
just can’t remember how I found it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I always wanted to play in a metal band just because the lyrics, how heavy it
sounded, & the fact that I thought screaming was so cool.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Prior to 2019, none of us knew each other. I started the band back in 2016, I found
Jacob Ortengren through social media &; we wrote “Am I Worth Saving?” together. We
then went to Jonathan Dolese at Konkrete Studios to record the songs so we could find a
vocalist & Jonathan recommended Justin Stubbs. We all had instant chemistry so now
we’re just rolling with it.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Josey Stines - Thousand Below
Justin Stubbs - Invent, Animate
Jacob Ortengren - Hands Down
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
A lot of new Chasing Apparitions was inspired by a really dark time I had in my life. I
was drinking 5 days a week, wishing I was dead, just really not in a good place. This new
EP reflects my thoughts during that time & how I currently view the world now that I’ve
found a good medium.
6. Where was your last gig?
Chasing Apparitions hasn’t played a show since our hiatus in 2016.
7. Where would you like to perform?
I’d really love for Chasing Apparitions to play a packed show at The Hoosier Dome.
It’s my all-time favorite venue.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
I’d love for Chasing Apparitions to play a packed show with Soulseeker, Relics, & Archers. I feel like that line-up would be stacked.
9. Whom not?
I would never consider playing with Trapt or As I Lay Dying. I’d turn down all the
money in the world.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how
to beat that?
I had a stage fright when I played my first show back in 2015. The best way I’ve
found is to find one person in the crowd & focus on them. Pretend you’re literally playing
just for them & not anyone else.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Asking Alexandria inspired me when I was first starting out, but as time moved on
I’ve found inspiration in other bands or musicians. I think Thousand Below & Dayseeker
are absolutely killing it right now. Waterparks is my all-time favorite rock band right now. I
think that Fronz (as controversial as he is) is absolutely killing it in the business aspect. I
just wish I could sit down with them & pick their brains about different things.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
One time in Pennsylvania I had someone ask me if I would consider dating their
daughter. I was speechless.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I think our fans are extremely patient. We took a 3yr hiatus from 2016-2019 & when
we dropped “As Above, So Below” they were right there to jam it. I was absolutely amazed
when “As Above, So Below” did better than any song on “The Hedonist” in only its first
week.
14. What do you think of our site?
I think your website is very sleek. It’s very easy to navigate & it’s not cluttered. I
enjoy browsing your site in my free time to find bands that I’m not normally acquainted to.
15. Something to add?
Chasing Apparitions has a new single coming out on 8.7.2020 titled “L’appel Du
Vide”. Our sophomore EP, “Am I Worth Saving?” will be released everywhere shortly after,
so please make sure to follow us on our socials so you can keep up to date on everything
we’re working on. Thank you so much for having us.
