Interviews: Halysis

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Black Metal/Death Metal band, Halysis, from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We had been looking for a band name for a long time before ‘’Halysis’’. Our guitarist Jose found the word somewhere on the internet, and we all thought it sounds cool so we just agreed on that. Halysis means ‘’chain’’ in Biblical Greek.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We have never thought about playing one specific genre. We just let things form naturally as we go.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Santeri (bassist), Samuel (drums) and Jose (guitar) have been friends for a long time. Halysis originally started as their jamming project like 10 years ago. Our second guitarist (also named Santeri) found the band on the internet and joined in 2014.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Our favorite bands right now are: As I Lay Dying(Samuel, drums) Archspire (Santeri, guitar) Haken (Santeri, bass) Contortionist (Jose, guitar)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We tend to draw influence from all kinds of music. Biggest is obviously metalcore, but you can hear a lot of proggressive metal and death metal in there. Just sticking to one specific genre sounds really boring to all of us. Besides music, movies and video games are a big inspiration for our songs. Like sometimes after watching a really good movie you gotta write a new song.

6. Where was your last gig?

We haven’t done any gigs together, yet.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Any club with a full crowd! Can’t go wrong.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Probably with our favorite bands, which you know already :)

9. Whom not?

I mean, there is no one specific, but some bands with totally different genres could be interesting to say the least haha!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not from a serious stage fright no, but it’s totally normal to be a little nervous before entering the stage. It’s just something you have to acknowledge, not necessarily get rid of. Good preparation is a great way of lowering the pressure, but in the end, live is always live. Anything can happen, everybody makes mistakes. Don’t be afraid of them, learn from them!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We’ve got inspiration from all kinds of music, but to name a few, we’ve got influenced by The Faceless, As I Lay Dying and Between The Buried And Me.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven’t really had any weird interactions with fans as of yet, mostly because we’re still a fresh band in the market. It takes some time to grow a fanbase.

13. What do you think of your fans?

As we said in the previous question, we don’t really have a markable fanbase yet. Still of course we’ve received a lot of great feedback from various sources after our debut release ”Cerulean”, and we’re very thankful for those people who let us know how they feel about the album!

14. What do you think of our site?

Simple and easy to navigate! A lot of content for a customer to explore.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for the interview!
