Interviews: Stormstress

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Stormstress, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

TANYA VENOM: The name “Stormstress” was inspired by the raging tropical storm that hit America’s Northeast during the weekend of October 13th, 2019 when we officially decided to join forces and create this vicious power trio. To us, the name “Stormstress” represents a powerful Storm Goddess who can harness the essence of the storm.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

MADDIE MAY SCOTT: All three of us get the most joy out of grooving hard and heavy so playing hard rock/heavy metal comes naturally. It just feels so good and so right.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

TIA MAYHEM: Tanya Venom and I have been together since before birth as we are identical mirror twins! We met Maddie when we hired her to play drums in our previous band, Flight of Fire.

4. Each band member’s favourite band?

TIA MAYHEM: My favorite band of all time is the wildly talented power trio Rush. Tanya’s favorite band is the innovative and hard hitting Led Zeppelin, and Maddie’s favorite band is the pirate shanty-driven Alestorm. Collectively, the three of us have bonded over our shared love for Avenged Sevenfold, Halestorm, and Eluveitie as well!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

TANYA VENOM: Tia and I are the main songwriters in Stormstress. We are often inspired by situations we’ve had to overcome or are working on overcoming in our lives regarding our musical dreams and passions, love, and especially our journey to self-discovery and awareness.

6. Where was your last gig?

MADDIE MAY SCOTT: We were lucky enough to have our debut show at Once Ballroom in Somerville, Massachusetts in late February just a couple weeks before the world went into the Pandemic lockdown. We are looking forward to our upcoming American and European tours that will kick off as soon as it’s safe to travel and perform again.

7. Where would you like to perform?

TIA MAYHEM: It is our dream to perform all over the world in as many kickass venues and countries as possible! Some that are on the top of our list where we have yet to perform include Japan, Norway, Australia and Brazil.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

TANYA VENOM: We would probably all die of happiness if we got the opportunity to collaborate with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, Cherie Currie and Joan Jett of the Runaways, Nita Strauss, Amy Lee of Evanescence, or any of the many other badass rocker women making a statement in the Rock/Metal scene.

9. Whom not?

MADDIE MAY SCOTT: The three of us are quite versatile in our genre-playing abilities and enjoy a good challenge, so we’d like to keep all options open!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

TIA MAYHEM: We’ve all had our bouts of stage fright when we started performing when we were teenagers, but we have now become very comfortable with life on stage. A great way to quell stage fright is to look in the mirror before you perform and psych yourself up with positive affirmations about how awesome you are. Imagine how happy and relieved you’ll feel after the show ends and it was a success. If you can envision the show going well and talk yourself up, you will gain all the confidence you need to fight off that anxious feeling of stage fright.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

TANYA VENOM: Our sound and songwriting is heavily inspired by Avenged Sevenfold and Halestorm with their hard-hitting, gritty riffs and accessible lyrical ideas and melodies, while our live performances take notes from Rush and Led Zeppelin’s eccentricity and uniqueness.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

TIA MAYHEM: As an all-female band, we have each been asked for our hand in marriage on separate occasions by members of both genders. That has got to be the weirdest thing any fans have asked of us. Of course, we decline their proposals in a sarcastically tinged polite way.

13. What do you think of your fans?

MADDIE MAY SCOTT: We are constantly blown away by the dedication of our beloved fans. We would be nowhere without their support and love. People from all over the world have been touched by us and our music. Wherever you come from, and whoever you are, as long as you have love in your heart, you are welcomed into the Stormstress family. If you want to get really tight with us, we have a Patreon page where anyone can sign up to be a part of our inner circle! Follow this link to join: https://www.patreon.com/stormstress

14. What do you think of our site?

TANYA VENOM: The Breathing the Core website is a fantastic site that helps spread the word of heavy bands from all over the world. We love it! Thank you for including Stormstress!

15. Something to add?

TIA MAYHEM: We’re preparing to get back into the studio to finish recording our debut album produced by Liz Borden and Sarah Fitzpatrick so we can get it out to the public and get touring! Keep your ears open for sick riffs delivered to your face from Stormstress.
