Interviews: Hostia

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Grindcore band, Hostia, from Poland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Well, it was an instant idea, to be honest. Back in the day, I was sure it should be blasphemy punch in the catholic church so it came easy. Hostia in polish means "body of Christ" in form of the white chips (laugh).

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We didn't plan it, it evolved naturally, the beginning of Hostia there were just jams of couple of friends. It was just pure fun, we played what we wanted to, mix of genres, anyone form the band listen to different kind of music so it's hard to put Hostia stricte to the grind bag. There's hardcore energy, rock'n'roll catch and death metal brutality. So you name it!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes we did, all of us was played in a couple different polish bands and we shared the stage multiple times so I must say we were already a long time friends.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

It's a tough one so let's just draw: King Diamond, Converge, Metallica, Napalm Death.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

In my case, it's probably being disgust of religions and humans stupidity, second place goes to 80' horrors slasher movies.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was the "Innowiercy Tour” last year in 8 polish cities.

7. Where would you like to act?

Daaaamn, literally everywhere, where people want to hear us of course! Visiting new countries and cities is probably the best part of beeing in the band. On my personal bucketlist are Obscene Extreme, Brutall Assault and Hellfest.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We don't have such a concrete goals, maybe we're too old for this (laugh). We just want to play and team up with cool people.

9. Whom not?

We definitely don't want to deal with catholic freaks, fascist, racists and homophobes. Fuck them with a knife.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

You can play gigs for 20 years and still have stage fright, maybe not so hardcore as at the beginning but still. So yes it happens. The most popular tip for the beginners is booze (laugh) but trust me it's not good for your performance. My personal tip is to go with the flow, with the music, I'm a totally different person on stage! It’s a bit like acting, a bit like a possession. (laugh)!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

If you asked me it's gonna be: King Diamond, Danzig, Queen, and Elvis Presley.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I suppose there are no that level „fans” in Hostia case yet (laugh) Nothing weird happens yet.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I noticed that we have the collector type of fans, every merch stuff we come up with is almost instant sold out. And they are really crazy fuckers when it comes to reactions for the gigs. That's why we never gonna play any on-line streaming bullshit "gigs”.

14. What do you think of our site?

Looks cool but it should have more info about Hostia definitely! (laugh)

15. Something add?

My dear readers - if you're tired of modern steril plastic metal music where technique is more important than headbanging – just accept unholy Hostia to your hearts!
