Interviews: Terakai

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Terakai, from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

At the time we were desperate to have a unique name which couldn’t be mistaken for another act, I guess inspired by local heroes such as Sylosis, Viatrophy, Malefice etc......somehow after a couple of really dodgy naff names we arrived at this odd combo of pterodactyl and cobra kai and it stuck!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We all grew up listening to melodic metalcore and wanted to make music that if we'd heard as kids would’ve made us think ‘holy sh*t!’

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We were actually brought together by the scene in reading which used to be huge and vibrant! We all played in other bands before Terakai and started in our original line up in 2009. Elliot joined us a few years later after our original drummer moved on and we knew Dale from the old days so when we needed a bassist to step in he was the obvious choice!

4. Each band member favourite band?

So many to choose and it changes daily ha! Here goes:

Joe – Killswitch Engage

Tom – AC/DC

Dale – Sikth

Elliot - Chimaira

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

On one hand just a love of the creative process. We’ve been driven by personal struggles and a combination of rage and apathy at the state of current events to come back angrier and more emotive, for some kind of catharsis if nothing else.

6. Where was your last gig?

Reading Face Bar way back in 2014! We went on hiatus immediately afterwards, that was a sad day!

7. Where would you like to play?

DOWNLOAD. Hands down.

8. Who would you like to support?

Aiming high I’d say Metallica! Maiden! Haha. We’ve been lucky over the years to open for some heroes like Black Dahlia, After The Burial, Sepultura and more, the holy grail for us would be the likes of Trivium, Architects, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive .... Not that we like to aim high or anything...

9. Who not?

We’d hit the stage with anyone honestly!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

A JD and Coke seems to do the trick. In all seriousness I think anyone who claims not to get a bit of stage fright is being less than truthful. Always warm up and steady yourself with breathing exercises and the like. Nerves are just undirected energy anyway right? As soon as you get out there and start smashing it they convert into excitement.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, All That Remains, Misery Signals, Architects

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Not asked us for as such, but we had a guy get our logo tattooed on his arm once. Absolute legend.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We never had a massive fan base but they were, intense. Intact the thought that even 10 people might get stoked that we're back was one of the driving factors behind reforming. We always had so much support from our friends and fans we wanted to give them something new you know?

14. What do you think of our site?

Love the fact that you guys promote real underground acts and push platforms like Bandcamp as they enable artists to monetize their craft in a way the major streaming services don’t. Maybe one day we'll get one!
