Interviews: Atheos

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Atheos, from Ireland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We have had the name Atheos for a few years now, it is an ancient greek term meaning “Godless”, which suits the band perfectly.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Personally, I have always been drawn to dark heavy music from a young age, so it was fairly natural that I would some day end up playing such music, I think this is most likely true for the other members of Atheos. Death metal is always something that is evolving so remains fresh without drifting too far from its core.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Actually, I played in a band with John L many years ago called “Nothing is Sacred” it was also a Death metal band, I first came across Wayne and John B when another band I played in “On Pain of Death” played on the same bill as Atheos, little did I know I would be in Atheos a few years later. I also would have shared a stage with Ed’s other band “Slave Zero” in the past. I think Wayne and John B have been playing together in other bands for years before forming Atheos,

4. Each band member favourite band?

Mine (Hick) changes quite a lot, at the moment probably “Blood Incantation”

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think inspiration can come from many different things for different people, Other music inspires me not just Death metal, our rich Irish History and landscape inspires me.

6. Where was your last gig?

Atheos last gig was in Cork city with the great Zealot Cult, personally I played with “Coscradh” and “GOURD” in Cork also, just before this shitstorm called Covid came about.

7. Where would you like to act?

A few European shows would be great in the future, or a few festival slots

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

So many good bands out there at the moment especially in the underground Death and Black metal scenes, I could name out a very long list.

9. Whom not?

Anyone who supports extreme right wing, religious or sexist views,

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I’ve been playing gigs in different bands for 20 odd years so I personally don't really suffer stage fright now, I do however like a pint or two before hitting the stage it helps me relax.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

From a death metal point it would have to be early Morbid Angel and Death for me.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don't know, Can you play Freebird ?

13. What do you think of your fans?

Ha, we're very much a new band so let's see if this release gains us some fans.

14. What do you think of our site?

I only discovered your site a few weeks ago, as I try stay off the internet as much as possible. But I’ve discovered some really good new bands from your site so keep up the good work.

15. Something add?

Thanks for taking the time and I hope you enjoy our new album “Words of Eroding worlds” which is out on Neflhel records October 27th.
