Interviews: Catapults

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band, Catapults, from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Lot's of beer was involved. We decided on the name before we even agreed to start a band. The four of us met at a local bar and the first thing we talked about was, how cool "Catapults" sounds for a band name. So we just went with that. Also Catapults sounds cooler than trebuchet.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We all like to rock out. But we didn't agree on a genre beforehand. The first thing we did was play a few covers to see what works for us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Malte and Lars met on the first day of college while playing beer pong. Lars, Joost and Maurice knew each other from school but weren't really in touch. So Malte was the "new guy" in the group, but we all started clicking from the very fist rehearsal.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Lars - Metallica

Maurice - Baby Metal

Joost - Taylor Swift

Malte - Nickelback

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For Lars it's mostly Fred Durst. No, seriously- I'd say we mostly inspire each other to write songs. But of course our taste in music, our taste in lyrics and our very own desire to write new music play a huge role. And of course our fav. bands.

6. Where was your last gig?

In our home town Oldenburg with our band-besties in Loose Lips. These guys slap and play the best Rick Astley cover.

7. Where would you like to act?

Let me re-phrase that question: When would you like to act? Answer: 2021.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We have a feature on our upcoming record with a very close friend from another band. We always said that we don't want a feature for the whole purpose of having a feature. So when we wrote the song, we immediately thought about our friend Hilmar and that the part of the song was basically written for him to sing it. For future features we'd love to work with a female singer.

9. Whom not?

That guy from Disturbed.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

We all have had bands or stage practice before we started Catapults. So going on stage is nothing new for us but it's most certainly always exciting and we're all 100% focused. Our biggest show was a festival near Hannover. I think we chugged a bear before the show cause the stage was so freaking huge that we got a little pre-show jitters. A tip for beginners: Don't get hammered. Playing drunk only sounds good to you. We learned that the hard way. Focus on your playing and don't overthink it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

F.e. The Story So Far, The Wonder Years, Moose Blood, Billy Talent, Paramore, Buffi Clyro... but it's hard to pin them down. Everything inspires you everyday. You might not even notice it. Something you hear on the radio might effect your next song or something you read a few years ago might be affecting your lyrics. Again for Lars it's Limp Bizkit.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

It's a total cliche but a girl once asked for inappropriate pictures from our drummer. You know who you are. Other than that we're very lucky that our supporters and fans are very respectful and we seriously thank every person who has supported us so far.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We're thankful, especially as a young and relatively small band, that we have so many people who support us in so many different ways. It is one of the most important things when you start a band to have a network of people and friends who work with you. Without all these, it'd be 10x harder to get you music heard than it already is. So we love and thank everyone who supported us and thank everyone, not only fans but also bands, promoters, venues, critics we've crossed paths with.

14. What do you think of our site?

Loads of cool rock bands! Viva BTC!

15. Something to add?

What concert costs just 45 cents? 50 Cent featuring Nickelback!
