Interviews: Corpulent Provocateur

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, Corpulent Provocateur from the Czech Republic. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We love The Simpsons. There was an episode where Homer became an artist manager and his client bought him a fancy cowboy suit in a store named Corpulent Cowboy. Since Homer is kind of a provocateur in various situations, the name came up this way.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It is not that we wanted. It is because of our previous band experiences and the music we like.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. We met each other several times before, mostly at gigs where either played or hung out.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Josef (singer/guitar): It's hard to say one, because I like different genres and music eras. But if I had to pick one to have it on a CD player on Desert Island, I would say Mad Season.

Tomáš (drums): I have to go with Foo fighters.

Jiří (bass, vocals): RHCP, Jamiroquai, Twelve foot ninja and many others

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life. It is important to be unique and not just like another band. I'm not sure if we made it yet, though.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was a small party for the crew of Studnice Fest, where we played in the summer. We kind of knew that it would be the last gig for a very long time, so we enjoyed it, like we were playing for thousands, even if there were only a couple of dozen people. We even invited a guest from another band The Atavists, Mr. Adam Krofian. It was the first time with a guest and the sound was pretty huge and fat thanks to him. What a great night.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Now? Anywhere.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

We have a pretty long bucket list of bands we want to meet on the same stage. You can read a few names above in the favorite band question. Anyways, it would be cool if one of these bands actually wants to play with us. That would be the best.

9. Whom not?

Any racist, fascist or xenophobic band. Their fans definitely don't deserve to see our show.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Josef (singer/guitar): Of course. Mainly in the early days. I remember, before the first gig, for an half hour I was walking the same 30 meters in the club from one wall to another trying to not throw up. There is no universal tip for anybody. Try different things, have a beer, smoke a joint or jerk off. Something will help.

Tomáš (drums): Quite a lot in my musical early days. I guess one of the best ways to overcome stage fright is breathing exercise which I learned at school. Kind of meditation thing, takes about 5 minutes before going on stage. After you go on stage and start playing. Before you realize you should be nervous, half of your set is done and there's nothing to worry about.

Jiří (bass/vocals): Yes of course. It depends on how old you are and how skilled you are on your instrument. It means if you aren't a pure exhibist you have to practice and practice. Then the playing will be more natural for you like a breathing and stage fright will disappear.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mostly the bands from the 90’. But since we are listening to various artists from different time periods, lots of recently released music, we can tell that our inspiration is borderless. LOL

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Josef (singer/guitar): I was playing a really great gig with my previous band. There was a lot of energy in the air. Sometimes you can just feel it, you know, the special tension between you and the audience. I knew that this gig was something special, there were like three encores on top of it.. one of the best gigs I ever played. When we finished, I went down from the stage and in a second this guy came to me and seriously asked me if I knew what time it is. That was really weird.

Tomáš (drums): “Could you please sign my back? I’m too old for you to sign my boobs to be honest. Thanks!” Znojmo, wine festival, true story.

Jiří (bass): Sorry bro, I am a bass player. No one asks bassists about anything. Maybe something like: Can you take your car to a gig or can you put my stuff into a car, I am late.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Only the best. It is well known that our fans are very intelligent and beautiful people.

14. What do you think of our site?

Great site with a lot of fresh content. Thanks for the opportunity to be involved.

15. Something to add?

People, be nice to everyone. We only have each other.
