Interviews: NoSelf

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal/Nu-Metal band, NoSelf from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

DHK: it actually just kind of came together one day. When we were starting up and stuck.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

DHK: Just wanted to pay homage to the bands we were listening to when we first got into music, really put our influences on display.

Justin: It's important to me (us) to keep the spirit of NuMetal alive. It's what influenced me (us) when we were younger, and we wanted to do our part to help keep the genre alive. 3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

DHK: Myself and Justin met in High School and have been good friends ever since.

Drew: I moved to the band's area 3 years ago. Was itching to find a band to be a part of and NoSelf seemed right the instant I heard a few riffs.

4. Each band member favourite band?

DHK: Deftones hands down.

Justin: How do you pick ONE single favorite band? Way too many to choose from. Honorable mentions include Swift, Emmure, Evans Blue, Fire from the Gods, DED, Deftones, Breaking Benjamin, Sevendust, KoRn, Cold.

Drew: It's a toss-up between Deftones, Cold and Tool.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

DHK: For me, it’s life experiences in general. Anything from Heartbreak to falling in love.

Justin: Life usually inspires me, when I'm feeling down or depressed is when I usually write my best stuff 6. Where was your last gig? DJ and Ginas Lounge in Summerfield, FL

7. Where would you like to act?

Justin: I'd love to tour the US.

Drew: Europe, South America and Russia. 8. Whom would you like to feature with?

DHK: I mean Chino Moreno would be a dream come true. Realistically I’d love to do something with DeD. We’ve all been really into what they’re doing.

Justin: Other up and coming NuMetal acts. DED, Jynx, Fire From the Gods. Old staples would also be amazing! KoRn, Deftones, Slipknot, etc

9. Whom not?

DHK: To be honest I don’t have an answer for this one. If a song is good it’s good and it would be a pleasure to be a part of it. And if someone has an interest in what we got going on and they have a cool idea or can help make something special I’m down.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

DHK: I’m not a big fan of crowds but what I can say is this. Just do it and remember being on stage, being in front of people is the easy part. You have already done the hard part. You’ve created something from nothing and that should be more than enough to impress people. Just be you and be passionate and what’s important will shine through.

Justin: I’m a guitar player, so I have the luxury of hiding behind my instrument. Once the first note starts at a live show I just kind of check out mentally. Muscle memory kicks in and I just play. I don’t really get any kind of stage fright.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

DHK: Deftones, GlassJaw, Nothingface, & 36 Crazyfists

Drew: Too many to list.

Justin: Other acts putting their own modern twist on the NuMetal Genre.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Justin: The shirt off my back! lol

13. What do you think of your fans?

DHK: We love them. They make it all worth it and without their support, energy, and admiration creating music putting ourselves out there much more difficult.

Justin: They're the best! we wouldn't be shit without them.

14. What do you think of our site?

DHK: Pretty rad. Love anything that pushes aggressive music. Also enjoyed the access to a lot more underground stuff that I wouldn’t have normally stumbled upon or heard about.

Justin: It's awesome, (independent) Bands always need more support/exposure!

15. Something add?

NoSelf has been hard at work for the better part of a decade promoting and pushing the Numetal agenda. It's nice to see it finally coming back around.
