Interviews About Albums: Stonebourne - Squirrels On A Plane (2020)

1. What can you say about this new CD?

This album is the result of the last years work on our band sound and on new songs following up our first 6-track EP, which was already a big success for us, that we hadn't expected that way. No we move on with the new CD where we stopped with the EP. In our opinion it's another step further on compared to the EP. Of course we had more studio time for the production, so we put a little bit more time in the small things also. Usually we have our songs written and finished upfront the studio recordings and we have played them many times at rehearsal and on stage. This new album has even some totally new tracks, we wrote just while being in the studio.

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

Our bass player Dierk says: "It means what it says. We all are squirrels." I would add: "On a plane." But this is no explanation. We can't give you one and we don't really want to. The album title is like the cover picture free for interpretation, just like our songs. I am not able to explain everything I'm singing, the words, the cover art, the album name it all just comes into our minds and then we hope, it will make sense for somebody else too. Isn't it that what music i supposed to be? Like everybody is listening to his own song?

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Our usual workflow is like that: I (as singer and guitarist) come up with an idea or sometimes even a complete song and show it up to the others at rehearsal and then we try it out like a pair of new shoes. Everybody tries to fit and if we are lucky at the end we have a song finished that suits everybody in the band. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it's tough, sometimes it's a mess. But everybody always adds something to the song.

4. If you have to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Very difficult question, anyone will pick a different one. I like for different reasons esp. "Swimming Through the Waves", "Mother", "Reason To Live" and in the end "A Little Bit Of Killing". Dierk says without hesitation "Not Your Jesus". We all often like also to play "Easy" and "Black Widow" at rehearsal and "My pen Is A Warm Gun" is also great to have fun with...ah you name it all, because theyare all great in their ways.

5. Is there a special message in this CD?

If there is what it is? I don't know really. Maybe it's more the feel that comes with it. Because maybe we play a different type of sound than most of the other grunge bands. Lately we got a pretty cool review by a french magazine and I find it describes it quite good: "Let yourself be carried away by this deep, timeless musical current that stirs your guts and irresistibly transports you on an endless odyssey." Wow, I really like that!

6. Are there some lyrics that you´d love to share?

I'd love to share them all, that is why I'm writing songs all the time, to spread the word, to be heard. I never ever just write some stupid and menaingless lines and would aprechiate anyone really reading the lyrics of any song and let your mind go with it and make it your own. Maybe we will meet then together in these words.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album?

Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thanks especially? Musical influences or inspirations are from everyone and everywhere, not only the typical grunge bands. We all have a wide taste of music in the band. More inspirations for the songs comes from just every day and everything around, pain and joy. I try not to show too much depression when writing the lines and always giving hope a small chance, you may hear that also in the songs. We are somehow a happy grunge band - sometimes.

8. Something to add?

Thank you and anybody for the interest in our music. Dierk asks: Can we get more likes/fans/followers than Donald Trump? Because he only wanted to Make America Great Again. We Make Grunge Great Again!!!!!. I'd say who the f**** is Donald Trump? This guy got no rhythm and he can't dance....hahaha...Save the Grunge!
