Interviews: Constant Hunger

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band, Constant Hunger from Switzerland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

First of all, thanks for this interview. It's our first interview since the band was born and we're glad we're doing it with you guys at Breathing the Core. Before answering your question let us introduce ourselves: we're Constant Hunger, a 4-piece hardcore band born in 2018 in Lugano, Switzerland. After a line-up change in early 2020 the current members are Ivan (vocals), Vichai (guitar), Ted (bass) and Davide (drums). We released 2 demos and a videoclip, and played many shows in Switzerland and Italy in our first year of activity. Ivan has had the idea for this band name for a long time, he proposed it when the band was formed and the other members liked it, so here we are. "Constant Hunger" is our will to continuously improve ourselves both as people and musicians, trying to spread a message of unity, equality and respect.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We just...wanted it! We just wanted to sound like that, it has always been so natural for us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all knew each other since longtime. Some of us played together in previous bands, others still play together in other projects (e.g. Vich and Davide play together in a metal/hardcore band called RTC, check them out!).

4. Each band member favourite band?

The list could be very long but let's keep it short, otherwise we'll bore all your readers and fans! Ivan: Madball Vich: Iron Age Ted: Crowbar Davide: Gorilla Biscuits

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We're inspired by our will to improve, to be together, to play music together and to refuse every kind of hate. At the same time, we're inspired by everyone who tries to make the world a better place, everyone who still believes in independent music and who promotes culture and human values. And Sunday football!

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was supposed to be in January 2020 in Bern, Switzerland, opening for Swiss hardcore band Insanity. Unfortunately our car broke down on the way so we were forced to drive back home someway. We were angry for missing this chance and, after a few phone calls, we arranged a last minute show in our home area. Played in front of 3 people (literally!!) but it was funny as hell. Good times. After that, the Covid-19 pandemic slowed us down a little bit, and we hope to start playing live again as soon as possible. The last "real" gig we played was in Geneva, after something like 5-6 hours of driving we had an amazing night, opening to French hardcore band Self Esteem with 2 other Swiss hardcore bands: The PFK and Smile. Needless to say: check them all out. That was definitely one of the best shows we had so far.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere, as long as it's organized by someone who truly loves hardcore/punk/metal music and who genuinely wants to promote independent culture and a certain kind of message. So, are you organizing an amazing hardcore show in your grandma's kitchen with apple pies and hot chocolate for everyone? BOOK US! Are you planning the most amazing hardcore-punk festival in history with unknown, unsigned, freshly formed bands? BOOK US! Do you need an opening act for some hardcore legends playing in your club? BOOK US! WE'LL BRING AND SHARE OUR OWN BACKLINE IF NEEDED! Do you own a pub in the middle of nowhere and you think no one will attend a hardcore concert in your area? ORGANIZE A FUCKIN' HARDCORE SHOW AND FUCKIN' BOOK US! We don't have any kind of requests, just an enormous will to play and have some amazing time.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Everyone who truly loves music as much as we do, no matter if you play hardcore, rockabilly, funk, sleaze rock or if you're the techno-trance-hip hop-jazz-patchanka next big thing. Be hungry and stay hungry just like us.

9. Whom not?

Anyone spreading a message of racism and discrimination.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Ivan, most of all of us. When asked about this, his only recommendation is to think about something funny before going on stage and to laugh a lot. Then you're ready to take over the world!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Musically, we can mention some New York Hardcore bands such as Madball, Agnostic Front and Leeway as well as Terror, Power Trip and Bitter End, among others.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Hah, as long as we remember something really weird be sure we'll report it to you. We've already met some funny and interesting people but can't remember a strange thing somebody asked us.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We've been active since 2018 and during our first years as Constant Hunger we've already met plenty of people, everyone so unique. We can mention a glamster guy with a Lordi t-shirt moshing during one of our shows and a latino rapper dancing relentlessly all alone behind the stage during another show. We think diversity, under many points of view, is one of the greatest values in every community, so it is also in a group of fans or friends and we simply love that.

14. What do you think of our site?

We're glad and honored to be featured on Breathing the Core: it's simply amazing how you guys are promoting so many bands and artists from all over the world and we can just tell you to keep up the good work. Some of us discovered some new bands we've never heard before thanks to your website. As long as there are websites and zines such as Breathing the Core and relentless and dedicated bands from all over the world independent music will always have a say.

15. Something add?

A big THANK YOU for interviewing us: as said, it's been our first interview since the band was born and we're glad we had it with you! Keep up the good work on this amazing website, and take care. Check out our Facebook page for more news, music, concerts, whatever.....and if you're interested in booking a show for our band feel free to drop us a line, we can't wait to meet you and to have some amazing time all together. Live positive, improve, respect, love, travel, learn from your mistakes and always stay true to yourself.
