Interviews: Conquerors
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Black Metal band, Conquerors from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like
that?
Morty: I’m a huge fan of Aura Noir, so I have chosen the name of my favourite song
« Conqueror ». But it was already taken, so I added « s ».
Anfauglith: Morty said it all
Ottar: One day, after a rehearsal, Morty came up with the idea « Conquerors », i have
thougth « cool, i take it ! »
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Morty: It came naturally. I was always looking for more violence and more velocity. Playing
and singing as fast as I could. I love black metal too, so playing Black Thrash was the perfect
answer. Time showed us it was a consensual solution which managed to mix all the band
members influences.
Anfauglith: Morty said it all
Ottar: Same
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Morty: I knew Ottar before we started the band, we met during Metal Festivals. Concerning
Anfauglith, we shared the stage once and stayed in touch since then.
Anfauglith: I met Ottar and Morty on stage when I had another formation, and we had a
nice feeling going, so we kept in touch. Ottar joined my previous band, and as I was
becoming a good friend of Morty, I naturally joined his band when I had the opportunity
Ottar: Morty and Anfaugliht said it all
4. Each band member favourite band?
Morty: Bathory, early Slayer, Aura Noir, Hellhammer, Archgoat, …
Anfauglith: Dissection, early Bathory, Aura Noir, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Slayer,
Ottar: Aura Noir, Celtic Frost, Candlemass, Marduk, Entombed
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Morty: I don’t have any idea for a lyrical theme before the song is fully written and played
several times with the band during rehearsals. The lyrics are written in the last moment,
usually the day before the recording. I want to be sure that the rythm of each word or each
scream is as the right place and at the right moment. Anyway, nobody understands what I
sing, so the most important thing is that the lyrics rythm has to be perfect.
Concerning the theme of the songs, nothing particular, nothing new: war and its different
aspects. Music is what I find whith my guitar, nothing spectacular neither haha! So basically,
I’m a wanker.
Anfauglith: My way of playing is mainly inspired by thrash metal / black metal drummers,
(like Dave Lombardo, Dominator), which I love and took the fast and aggresive style. By the
way, we have good alchemy with
Morty: he naturally comes to fast and high-velocity riffs,
which is my « speciality », so I follow him instinctively. Then, we automatically speed up the
songs and come to level up on speed and brutality.
Ottar: I follow them instinctively, but when I read the lyrics it confirms my ideas.
6. Where was your last gig?
Morty: Chatillon-sur-Marne – 19/10/2019
Anfauglith: Holy shit I didn’t even remember
Ottar: DropKick Bar in Reims, It may happen with my profession that I cannot be present on
a few dates.
7. Where would you like to act?
Morty: On a Party San stage !
Anfauglith: The Mighty Party San stage
Ottar: On a Party San stage and a tour in Canada or north America
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Morty: I don’t really know yet, we just want to play
Anfauglith: Dunno
Ottar: Marduk, Saccage, …
9. Whom not?
Morty: Nobody in particular.
Anfauglith: whiners and posers
Ottar: Ok with Anfaulith
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to
beat
that?
Morty: At the beginning of course. It goes with experience. The only solution is to play more
and more. Know your songs perfectly and be fully focused on what you do on stage.
Anfauglith: It’s quite natural to have stage fright at the beginning, but it tends to desappear
with experience. Just be focused, specially on the first song, and let your body get carried by
the performance.
Ottar: During my first performance in Paris, but it disapperead as fast as it came.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Morty: Aura Noir of course, for the attitude and the way to act on stage. Musically, a lot of
bands from the 80s and the 90s: early Slayer for the evil sound, early Bathory and many
more for the fast singing, … Negator too, in particular its singer who used to make very long
screams. Some death metal bands…
Anfauglith: Morty said it all
Ottar: The way of playing, of Cronos from Venom and Apollion of Aura Noir.
12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Morty: Nothing yet.
Anfauglith: We got some fans ?
Ottar: Dice people recognize me, its funny
