Interviews: Holding Poison

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, Holding Poison from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We went through so many different band name ideas, I’m not joking in saying it must of been around 60/70 and all had been used by other bands/artists. It was around 1am one night Matt saw a listing for Foo Fighters new album and saw Holding Poison and thought it sounded pretty good for a band name. And the rest is history

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted something that comes at you like a bull out of a china shop. The kind of music that gets you moving!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We’ve known each other for a good number of years now. Jack and my family have been friends for years so we would just end up talking about music at Jack’s family events

4. Each band member favorite band?

Matt: Tough one, not sure I have a favorite as it depends on moods etc but its a cross between Foo Fighters, Biffy, John Mayer and Oasis

Jack: I learnt 90% of what I know about playing guitar from John Mayer. Biffy, Arctic Monkeys and Oasis are also up there.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think any musician will always try and will want to be creative. Once you catch that bug inspiration can come from anything.

6. Where was your last gig?

As a new band starting in lockdown we are yet to play a gig but once everything is back up and running then we will be sure to give this EP a runout

7. Where would you like to perform?

After lockdown, A gig would be great!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Matt: Biffy, Foo fighters the list goes on!

Jack: Biffy and Royal Blood shows are always a great time so a support slot with one of them would be the dream

9. Whom not?

Matt: Coldplay.

Jack: I second that.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Matt: I always get nervous but I feel like it makes me more switched on so it works to my advantage. And a bigger, I think the more you play helps get rid of the nerves.

Jack: Never really been a thing for me. I cut my teeth musically playing at jam nights, and I guess being thrown on a stage playing songs you don’t know grinds the fear out of you pretty quick.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Matt: Probably bands like Biffy, Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Oasis - the list is endless but I’d say they are the main ones

Jack: Mayer’s always been a massive influence for me. I grew up loving my dad’s music collection, so there’s also Led Zep, Cream etc, then Biffy and Oceansize for their odd time signatures and the dynamics in their songs.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Matt: To sign a guitar

Jack: I got asked to sign a guitar pick and post it to some dude in America once...

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’ve been great. Especially as we have done our releases through lockdown, Super supportive and we can’t wait to play live to them!
