Interviews: Endless Chain

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal solo studio project, Endless Chain from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

First, the name of the band was Endless Grey which we picked from the lyrics of Metallica's song 'For whom the bell tools'. However afterward, it turned out that the name was already in use so I wanted to make as little change as possible. Endless Chain sounded cool to me. I think the name is more about, for example, the small or big things that happen in life, which form an endless chain and cycle of life.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Metal music has been close to my heart for more than 30 years but I think that it is hard to define some particular genre to my music. However, melodies are important to me, I believe my music is melodic metal mixed with nuances from other genres, such as melodic death metal and melancholic metal but you can also hear influences from non-metal genres.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Well, Endless Chain has been my own solo project since the beginning. Of course, I knew my friend Ari Hokkanen for many years, he was mainly responsible for completing the lyrics. I was a bit familiar with the drummer Samuli Mikkonen (Korpiklaani), even before the project started. One of the singers on the album is Aki Salonen, who sings in a band called Nemecic whose drummer Niko Anttila has been familiar to me for a long time. Other musicians involved in the making of the album came along mainly through producer Aleksanteri Kuosa.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

I only answer this for myself, but it's hard to say just one favorite band. So let's answer Metallica, Megadeth, Helloween, and In Flames.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

First of all, I have to admit that I was pretty lazy to learn and play cover songs. This probably drove me to do my own songs right from the beginning. I think it's great to create new music. It’s amazing when the song starts to build piece by piece and at the same time completely new melodies are created. When they end up being successful, they create insanely good feelings every time.

6. Where was your last gig?

Endless Chain is for me a purely about creating new music and releasing it so no gigs are expected.

7. Where would you like to act?

Well, if Endless Chain was a touring band, I have to answer Tuska Metal Festival in Helsinki to this, since I'm from Finland.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Hard to say, but sharing the stage with big names like Metallica, Helloween or ever Amorphis would be great but I haven’t experienced performing or touring as my own thing at any point. More important to me is creating new music.

9. Whom not?

This is not a hard question, I can't name anyone for this.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Probably everyone in some way has suffered from ramp fever no matter the occurrence. Personally, I try to calm myself in advance and maybe go through some things before performing. But really, on behalf of the music I've chosen for myself what things I want to do and I do not feel the need by playing gigs or to bring myself up that way. The music itself is more important.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are certainly many bands from different eras that have shaped my own music. These are Metallica or Megadeth, which I mentioned earlier. Among Finnish bands, I could mention Amorphis and Insomnium.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Maybe someone has sometimes asked if I’m enriched by making music .. what do you think…. NO! After all, music isn’t done for money but for the love of it!

13. What do you think of your fans?

For me, of course, it brings a sense of success and a good feeling if someone listens and likes my music. So thank you to each of you and I hope you also like my upcoming new songs and my first full-length album.

14. What do you think of our site?

You have great pages where new and not-so-well-known bands and artists can come out. Thank you for getting into the interview and adding Endless Chain to your site.

15. Something to add?

Endless Chain will be releasing a full-length debut album titled 'Forthcoming Past' on the 25th of June, 2021. There will be two more single releases before that so check them out! And of course, welcome to follow Endless Chain on Facebook and Instagram too!
