Interviews: Wicked Envy

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band, Wicked Envy from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Desiree: I came up with the idea of having something Witchy and Supernatural for the band name, as I am Obsessed with All things Supernatural. At first, I had my mindset on Wicca Envy leaning into the Witchcraft side of things, but soon changed it to Wicked Envy, as it has a better ring to it and easy to say and remember.

Jakub: So I joined the band in July 2019 and the band name was set... but it’s such a good band name.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Desiree: I mean I love almost every genre of music, but something about Rock N Roll, it's just so liberating! you can truly be yourself and show Vunerablitity and Raw Emotion. There are No Rules!

Jakub: I’ve played in a metal band and a disco pop band before, and hard rock is close to metal which is the genre I love to play.

Tim: I’ve been listening to hard rock/heavy metal since I was a teenager. My last band was an indie rock band and while fun, was not heavy enough! I’ve always wanted to jam, record, and play on stage with songs that make you want to bang your head. Also, a sweet guitar solo goes a long way.

Paul: Because I love Hard Rock!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Desiree: I knew My Drummer Paulo which is also my Step-Dad. As for Jakub and Tim, No I didn't know them beforehand. I found them online, haha that sounds a little creepy but true. I'm so glad I did. They are the best Bass player and Guitarist we could ever hope for and both are Great Dudes, Glad to call them mates!

Jakub: Nope, didn’t know Des, Paul, or Tim beforehand but glad I’ve got to know them the last two years.

Tim: Did not. I know them well now though!

Paul: Yes I know Desi our singer she’s my stepdaughter.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Desiree: Breaking Benjamin Of Course haha Actually that's a Bloody tough question, I have way too many bands I aspire to. Let's narrow it down to Top 3. Black Veil Brides, Palaye Royale & Breaking Benjamin. Phew!

Jakub: Breaking Benjamin... if Des has chosen this band as well, All That Remains

Tim: Tough one. Iron Maiden, Alice in Chains, Metallica or AC/DC.

Paul: Whitesnake.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Tim: I come up with a lot of riff ideas in the shower. I hear them in my head and get writing! Also, in between class time at work (I’m a teacher), I will sometimes sit in my room and play guitar. My last 3 songs have all started off that way. No one specifically inspires me to write songs, but if I hear a great riff or melody I will pick up a guitar.

Paul: The Bands I love & My Beautiful Wife.

6. Where was your last gig?

Desiree: At The Moshpit, it was also live- streamed as the venue was under strict restrictions due to covid. Our First ever Live Stream Gig Haha!

Jakub: I think it was at the MoshPit in Newtown, it’s been a while but it was also live-streamed so not sure I would count it... yeah let’s go with the MoshPit.

Tim: Moshpit in Erskineville. Interesting doing a Live stream?

Paul: Mosh Pit.

7. Where would you like to act?

Desiree: I would absolutely love to play The Enmore Theatre One Day, Bit of a dream of mine. Also couldn’t pass up Good Things Festival and Download Festival.

Jakub: Ah hard to choose but I wanna perform at Good Things Australia, they’ve had great bands perform at that festival, and wanna share the stage with awesome bands in my home country.

Tim: Anywhere that will let us! I’d love to play Enmore Theatre as a long term goal though.

Paul: On A Music Video.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Desiree: Any of the bands I mentioned and even big local bands from OZ.

Jakub: So many bands to choose from, I would have to go with The Beautiful Monument or maybe even a bigger band like Slipknot XD one can only dream, right?

Tim: Any of the bands I listen to as a long-term goal/international support really. This is a massive question. I’m still new to the gigging scene so I haven’t met many bands yet.

Paul: The Foo Fighters.

9. Whom not?

Desiree: Not Sure, Haven’t really thought about it.

Jakub: Bring Me The Horizon and Architects, they good bands but recent stuff have changed my mind.

Tim: Haven’t given this one much thought.

Paul: Jimmy Barnes.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Tim: I do before every show!

Paul: No

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Tim: If you know it, I’d like to hear it!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Tim: Megadeth is a big one-I think a classic underdog story. Dave Mustaine an incredible guitar player. ACDC-the reason I started playing guitar in the first place. The Darkness-What a performer! Also, there’s just something about Gibsons and Marshalls that click. Alice in Chains-love the grungey heavy metal they play. Ghost-Brilliant stage show, so melodic and catchy even when they sing about such dark material!

Paul: I had a female fan ask me to go home with her, that was interesting as I wasn’t single at the time, and no I didn’t.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Desiree: I absolutely love them! They are like family and we definitely appreciate them. They are the main reason why we make music.

Jakub: Fans are the most important members of the band, sure they don’t sit in the studio with us or write the songs, but they bring the vibes, they sing with us and shout with us and it’s what makes us like a big family and without them, we may as well just be sitting in a bedroom dreaming.

Paul: Luv Them.

14. What do you think of our site?

Desiree: It's a Great Site! Lots of Metal! Easy to use, Appealing to the eye, and very diverse genres of music. Aliencore, This I have to hear!

Jakub: It has... METAL and I love it, it’s simple to find things, it has bands that I’ve never heard of and as a metal fan, I can find these newer bands and listen to their stuff... I’m like a kid in a candy store.

Paul: Great Site, Music for everyone!

15. Something to add?

Desiree: We just released our new single “Its Been A Longtime” on The 7th of May and is available on all streaming platforms. We are launching our new single at The Chippo Hotel on Friday 4th June. The Tickets can be found on our Facebook or Instagram page. Thanks So Much!!!

Jakub: A description of what Nintendocore is... like what is that I wanna know who performs that genre cause if it’s like Nintendo the company... I’m gonna listen to it \m/

Paul: Yes, We are launching our New Single Live at The Chippo Hotel, on the 4th June.
