Interviews: Muertissima

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Death Metal band Muertissima from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Matt: Our band name was found by our leader Steph. He wanted a name related to the hispanic culture (both European and Latin-American) in order to pay homage to his Spanish roots. “Muertissima” is a Spanish word which could be translated as “absolutely dead” or “very dead”, it could be considered as an equivalent of the word “Megadeth” even if it has nothing to do with the military term (the lead guitarist, Marty Friedman is one of my major influences).

Steph: Muertissima is an invented Spanish word, I wanted a name that would stay in everyone's mind, musical and pleasant to hear and which is also very lively. Having Spanish origins, I wanted a Hispanic name for my band, I find this language very melodious, warm, festive and energetic and that's how I see Muertissima! Muertissima is also a reference to the Santa Muerte who is a Latin American deity representing death but who can also bring healing.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Steph: BECAUSEEEEE

Matt: WWWEEEEE

Simon: LOOOOOVEEE

Cedrico: IIIITTT

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Simon: I didn't know them. Our encounter was randomness at its finest.

Steph: Our great deity Muertissima brought us together until the end of time to spread our music upon the universe !

4. Each band member favourite band?

Steph: Slayer!

Matt: Behemoth and Amon Amarth!

Simon: Well, mine is Nasum

Cedrico: Mine is...

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Matt: Most of the time, music comes from emotions. Good feelings bring a sensation of empowerment, which creates very epic riffs in a Melodic Death metal style, and Bad feelings bring sadness and violence, which permits us to create more tormented music in a more Black and Brutal Death metal vein. Now, we only have to remember these feelings and work together to bring them in the rehearsal room and transmute them in a badass song !

Simon: I don't write songs on my own in this band, just lyrics for the majority of them. But in general, well, I just need to remind myself about every time I got crushed and broken beyond repair.

6. Where was your last gig?

Simon: At the Covent Garden. Not the one in England, the concert hall we have in France.

Matt: And also, we've just recorded a live performance at the « Canal 93 », next to Paris, because we're gonna partake in the french Metal Fest Online Evolution! So we played a gig, onstage, in an amazing concert hall, even if our only audience was our camerawomen and sound engineers!

7. Where would you like to act?

Steph: Hellfest!

Cédrico: 70000 Tons of Metal !

Matt: Motocultor Festival !

Simon: Well, anywhere is fine. Of course, we want to perform in huge festivals, great venues and all, but at this point, where everyone is craving live music, anywhere is REALLY fine.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Steph: Slayer

Matt: Errr... That would be a bit difficult now bro!

Steph: So... Pantera?

Simon: Nope!

Steph: Hum... Death?

Cedrico: Oh shit...

9. Whom not?

Simon: NSBM fuckers. Or autotuned rappers... eeeeew.

Matt: Arctic Monkeys and Maria Carey

Steph: Indochine.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Matt: Playing on stage is like going for a swim when the sea is cold: once the first 2 minutes have passed, it's okay and you can enjoy yourself naturally.

Steph: Stay natural, assume that you are playing in front of your friends and when you are with your friends everything is going well! And if it does not work, a good beer can help as well!

Simon: I never knew stage fright. Though I may suffer from severe social anxiety, I don't know what stage fright is. I just grab the Mic and everything's gone. All that remains is music and energy. Well, if there's any tip to this, I'd say: just go, there's nothing to be afraid of. That's just people, you make your music, that's your energy.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Steph: Slayer, surprisingly!

Matt: Slayer too, yeah. But also Amon Amarth, Immortal and Behemoth !

Simon: Pig destroyer. Check them out, you'll understand why.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Steph: An autograph on the buttocks !

Simon: I do hope to be asked for weird things by fans one day.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Steph: That they're crazier than us, that's why they're the best

Simon: It's nice to appreciate our music, I'm grateful for that.

Matt: Yeah, we love them!

14. What do you think of our site?

Steph: Very well presented, well done, great job!

Matt: And by the way, thanks a lot for this interview guys.

15. Something to add?

All: Yeah! Go check our first music video « Cerveza », it's kinda funny, you'll see. Also, follow us on all social media platforms, so you won't miss any of our upcoming concerts. Our unholy goddess Muertissima loves you all.
