Interviews: Demonztrator

We have had the opportunity to interview the  Thrash Metal band Demonztrator from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

JH: We started this band as a project in 2016 with the intention to pay homage to Finnish thrash and speed metal bands from the 1980s and 1990s. A lot of these bands were very good, overlooked underground bands who only got to record demos. With this point of view in mind we named the band Demonztrator. In other words, we wanted to bring these songs up to date with a better sound production and tight attitude. The name also contains the word "demon" which can't be a bad thing when you play thrash metal, ha-hah!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

JH: It's the inspiration of the legacy. Thrash metal is the style I grew up listening to. Intense and reckless stuff!

JR: Because it's fast and aggressive guitar based music.

TA: Because, why not?

JL: It’s great, aggressive music that makes blood flow through your veins!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

JH: Yeah, I was the driving force to put the band together. So I was lucky to know these like minded guys who wanted to play this kind of music.

JR: Jari was the only one I knew beforehand.

TA: Yup, the same for me, Jari was the only one I knew.

JL: I knew Jari, but I also knew Sepi (drums) before when he joined the band.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

JH: Slayer

JR: Metallica

TA: This could be many bands. For now I’ll go with Misfits cause Halloween is near.

JL: I’ve always been a huge Kiss fan but there are so many other bands I love, Anthrax, Judas Priest for example.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

JH: If you take a look at the state of the world, there's like a million things that have gone astray. There's a lot of inspiration out there. Also, my previous band, The Scourger, ended way too soon. I think I still have a lot of thrash metal songs in me that need to get out.

JR: The need to play guitar and music in general.

TA: Boredom.

6. Where was your last gig?

JR: On the Rocks, Helsinki

7. Where would you like to act?

JH: Hellfest, France.

JL: Wacken would be great!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

JH: The master of the drums: Dave Lombardo

JR: Dave Lombardo

JL: Scott Ian, Dave Lombardo.

9. Whom not?

JH: Britney Spears

JR: Manowar

JL: Any rap artist...

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

JH: Not badly. I think it's good to have a little bit of nerves before you go on stage. It keeps you focused. The tip would be to practice, practice and practice more so that you don't have to suffer that many Spinal Tap moments. They happen anyway, hah, so you can't really be 100% covered.

JR: Tip, get shitfaced before the show.

TA: Stage fright is a great song! I said welcome to my show!

JL: A little bit of stage fright is good for the show, keeps you sharp. Or get shitfaced as Jökä said.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

JH: All the great bands from the 1980's thrash metal scene. The small ones and the big masters.

JR: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Stone

TA: Phew, there’re plenty.

JL: Kiss, Anthrax, Stone, Metallica

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

JH: Nothing weird comes to mind right now...

13. What do you think of your fans?

JH: Great people, who are as enthusiastic about thrash metal as we are. I hope we will reach a lot of new metal music fans with our new album, "Sinister Forces Of Hatred" which is out on Ossuary Records in November 2021. Check it out!

JR: I hope we have some.

TA: I agree with Jökä

JL: Same as Jökä and Timo

14. What do you think of our site?

JH: Nice site! Keep up the great work to promote heavy music to the world!

15. Something to add?

JH: Thanks for the interview. Check out all of our thrash metal releases and keep the flag flying high for metal!
