Interviews: THE MAN FROM ALPHABET

We have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band THE MAN FROM ALPHABET from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?

While reading Malcom Gladwell’s The Tipping Point, I learned about a Sesame Street character that was an absolute failure in focus groups. A character by the name of “The Man From Alphabet”. I really liked the idea that it was a person from an intangible thing, which doesn’t make any sense.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve always gravitated towards hard-hitting energetic rock music ever since I was a kid. I just love the adrenaline rush and the energy that rock music can create.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. Basically, I wanted to cover this song so I reached out to friends/musicians who I thought would be the best fit for this song. I have current music projects with all three of the other guys. John (guitar) and I began playing in our thrashy tech-metalcore band Paria in 2001 and are about to release another album very soon. Kyle (drums) and I met about six years ago, but just started playing music together about a year ago in an industrial band called Model M. Patrick (vocals) has a 70’s psychedelic rock band called Empty Palace that I play bass in

4. Each band member favourite band?

Dustin - Smashing Pumpkins

John - Van Halen

Patrick - Judas Priest

Kyle - Dream Theater

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Anything that affects my mood or my feelings inspires me to write music. That can be things happening in my life, in the world, or the feeling I get listening to someone else’s music.

6. Where was your last gig?

This band was formed during the COVID era and has not played any shows yet.

7. Where would you like to perform?

I think my dream venue would be the Greek Theater and I’d like to play there on Halloween with all the audience in costume.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Foo Fighters, Danny Elfman, and Weird Al.

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

The only times I’ve had anything close to stage fright is when I’ve been in instrumental bands and been the guy who has to talk in between songs. I can confidently play bass on a stage in front of thousands of people, but I don’t like public speaking. As far as tips for overcoming stage fright, I’d say just to know all your parts and feel confident with your bandmates. If you feel like you are confidently going to play great, you really have nothing to worry about.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

For me personally it’s probably Primus, Nirvana, Mogwai, Zao, Unearth, Muse, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pantera, Metallica, and Foo Fighters.

11. What do you think of your fans?

I’m just so extremely appreciative of them. We live in a world with unlimited districations so pushing those all aside to support my creative projects means a lot to me.

12. What do you think of our site?

I think it’s fantastic that you’ve created a platform for independent artists to be heard! Thank you!
