Interviews: THEY WATCH US FROM THE MOON

We have had the opportunity to interview the Space Metal band THEY WATCH US FROM THE MOON from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?

At first, the band was something else, name, sound, and genre. We started to evolve. The name we were using just didn't fit the sound. When we realized the vibe was changing we knew it had to change. We didn't know it at the time but choosing the name eventually led us to the genre and concept we are now. Basically, a ton of names were written down and the one that caught everyones' attention was THEY WATCH US FROM... THE MOON!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Our backgrounds as a group are very eclectic. Most of us have heavy music backgrounds from Noise, Hardcore, Metalcore, Orchestral Metal. The singers for the band Luna and Nova are formally trained vocalists with backgrounds in more contemporary genres. There was more of natural evolution into what we are now. The decision was more of an effort to find a new sound and seperate ourselves from the herd. What happened was almost cosmic. As if the Universe was showing us an enlightened path to intergalactic sounds.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Shane, Adryon, Ben, and Zakk have all known each other from the regional music scene for decades. Luna and Nova are new to our network but they have known each since childhood and have been singing together and in other projects for years. As a unit we have all been together about 2 years.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Zakkatron: Type O Negative

Shane Thirteen: Godzillionaire

Nova 1001001: Heart Adryon- The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Luna: "I could no sooner choose a favorite star in the heavens."

Ben: Mr. Gnome

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I would say we are inspired by artists like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie just as much as we are influenced by modern bands we love like Sleep, Fu Manchu or Kal-El. All of us are all over the musical map of influences. I would say we are also just as influenced by comic books, sci fi and horror movies.

6. Where was your last gig?

Last Saturday night at the MINI BAR in Kansas City. Killer show!

7. Where would you like to act?

Eventually, we would like to do full theatrical productions. I would die happy to do that on Broadway in New York City.

8. Who would you like to feature with?

MAMMOTH WEED WIZARD BASTARD!

9. Who not?

I don't think we would shy away from playing with anyone. As far as we know the only enemies we have are the alien entities trying to take over our Universe.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

The only difference between being brave and being scared is the will to do the thing that is terrifying you in the first place. In those times is where heroes are born... Be your own hero.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Sleep, Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Pink FLoyd, David Bowie, JImi Hendrix, Clutch, Motorhead, Jeez I could just keep listing bands and artists till my arm falls off.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

"Can I wear your helmet?" I said "No, there is already a skull inside." One of our stage props is an astronaut helmet with a little 'friend' inside.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans. Without music lovers the world would be a dull and dry place. Those that have found us are cherished by us. Birds of a feather as it were.

14. What do you think of our site?

Fantastic! The work you are doing is extremely important to the music community. The site looks great and I have learned tons about new bands.
