Interviews: WYVERN

We have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band WYVERN from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?

In the beginning, we wanted a name that sounds great. WYVERN was the name of Laurent and Aurélie’s father's band back when he was young. As young musicians (14 years old), we simply wanted to create a band too, so we just used the name WYVERN, thinking that it would fit well and because we loved its sonority even though we didn’t know that it was about dragons and all! Unfortunately, in France, people have some difficulty with the writing and pronunciation of our name ahahah…

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We really like to tell stories in our songs, being free to use a wide range of sonorities in our music allows us to craft songs that are unique. That’s why we love to compose with a lot of dynamic variations between clean and ambient stuff and harsh riff guitars, synths sounds and vocal techniques.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! We met at the music school in 2014.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Aurélie: Avenged Sevenfold

Julien: Muse

Alexandre: Porcupine Tree

Laurent: Leprous

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It depends, it may be the environment, the mood of the day, the films, the series, the video games and listening to music in general.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was at Cavalaire-sur-mer in July

7. Where would you like to act?

We really want to spread our music worldwide, after touring in the south of France, why not go to the northern countries in Europe since there are a lot of bands we really love there!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We’d love to play with Leprous for sure. One of our biggest influences, it would be a childhood dream.

9. Whom not?

Maybe Justin Bieber, we don’t want to steal all his groupies ;)

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Suffering is a little excessive but yes, when it comes to the few hours before the gig, 2 of us are very tired and 2 others are like... over-excited. Tips time! Think about just after, when it will be time for applause and audience celebration. Try to focus on turning this bad energy into a beneficial and powerful way to play your music on stage. And have fun!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are bands like Muse, Leprous and Porcupine Tree that are bands that evolved a lot in their discography. That is very interesting thinking of the different artistic direction they have had on each album through the years, though we feel that the same musical root is still here no matter the albums.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Not weird but a surprising thing: Right after a gig in France, a fan asked us to write something in Russian on the case of one of our demo CDs.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We think that they are really good support and it feels good to have them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a great thing to support and promote bands like us!

15. Something to add?

Thanks for featuring us on your website, and… We can’t wait to share our new album and video clips to everyone !
