Interviews: FIRPO CHOMPEAVY

This is a new interview with the Experimental Metal/Stoner Metal band FIRPO CHOMPEAVY from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

The name is a funny word game that Cristian and Mudo (first guitarist and singer of the band) created one day. Basically what happened is: Cristian proposed to Mudo the name Firpo, which is a tribute to an Italian film called Odds and Evens with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, in this film Bud and Terence are known as Firpo's brothers. Mudo proposed to Cristian the name Chompeavy, which is a kind of word game in Italian, literally means “I have a Peavey” which is a famous amplifiers brand. Peavey has become Peavy by mistake and they decided to just put the two names together.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Actually, we never decided to play a genre, when Cristian and Mudo started the idea was to create a kind of Stoner Rock project, what came out after is just very spontaneous, everytime we create a riff we don't pay attention to what genre it is or what it should sound like. If we like it, we make a song on it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, Cristian and Mudo are really good friends and they formed it after many years playing together in a folk-rock band. After Mudo decided to leave Cristian decided to call Giorgio and Elia. Giorgio and Elia were in the same group of friends. Cristian met Giorgio when he was young, Giorgio used to go to Cristian's family bar and Elia was did the same Highschool, different classes, and years, but they knew each other. Moreno is younger than Cristian, Elia, and Giorgio and only Cristian knew him before, cause their moms are good friends. Anyway, we all come from the same town, Collecchio, more or less you know everybody.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Cristian: Queens of the Stone Age

Elia: Pink Floyd

Giorgio: Pink Floyd

Moreno: Blink 182

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Music is very spontaneous as I said before, so we don't really get a voluntary inspiration. The different thing for the lyrics. When Cristian does write the lyrics he tries to get inspiration from real stories, dramatic situations, and nightmares. The way that he used to write lyrics comes from poetry, like Baudelaire and Coleridge mostly.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in the Splinter Club in Parma, our home city.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere I would say.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Everyone who can bring us in front of a big audience.

9. Who not?

We don't have a person and a band that we don't want to perform with, we are just humble guys from a small town.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not really I want to say only if you love what you do, if you love your instrument why should you be scared to be on a stage? Being on a stage and playing your music in front of an audience is the most beautiful thing that you can do. First, because you can share with all the people your passion, your creation, what you love. If you love playing and instrument or singing you have to feel that the instrument is a part of you, not something that scares you.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There's not just one I can probably reduce the list to 4: Mondo Generator, Mastodon, Red Fang, and Kvelertak the most.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Usually, we are asking weird things to fans, not the opposite

13. What do you think of your fans?

If you love us, you love our music, we love you. Easy.

14. What do you think of our site?

I like it! It's cool!

15. Something to add?

Thanks to everybody who's supporting us and helping in this project
