Interviews: Otherworldly Entity

This is a new interview with the Nu-Metal/Alternative Rock/Hard Rock band Otherworldly Entity from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

Zlatko and I were on a road trip to see our friends in Enter the Haggis play in New Hampshire. We were driving through the Vermont country side, stopping at little shops, taking pictures of covered bridges. In any other circumstances, it would have been beautifully romantic, really. But along the way, we were coming up with band name ideas and at first, Zlatko (English being his second language) did not like the name. But as the trip progressed, he kept coming back to it. By the time we were back in New York, it was the band name. It's a reference to my life as a paranormal investigator and the fact that music seems to transcend all other things. It's a universal language, on an Otherworldly level.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I've always been a big fan of alt-rock and nu-metal. The first metal band I ever really listened to was Disturbed when I was 12. When I was 14, I heard 13 Ways to Bleed On Stage, the album by Cold. That influenced me so much. The raw, dark, human emotion, it was something I related to. Zlatko felt the same connection to the style, and when we met Matt, he had a similar bond with it. I think it was natural for us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I actually met Zlatko doing acoustic folk/Americana music. Both of us were doing that at the time, and we played a lot of shows and open mic nights together. Neither of us knew Matt at all, but our drummer at the time was friends with him, so we gave him a shot. We've gone through a few drummers, but Shawn has been my friend for a while, and his experience with Gainer and Cleansed in Embers really shines through. I'm proud to say this band is kind of my Avengers.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

John - Cold

Zlatko - Zabranjeno Pusenje

Matt - Ded

Shawn - Fit For A King

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For me, it's genuine human emotion. It's that human experience. I think so much happens for each of us on a day-to-day basis that is similar to each other. I think bringing that out in music shows us that we have more in common than we do indifference.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Montage in Rochester with some really great local bands. Fight From Within, A Greater Danger, Katspo, My Own Will, and The Fallen Prodigy

7. Where would you like to perform?

I would absolutely love to play Blue Ridge Rock Festival

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Evanescence. They are so powerful live. Korn, too. Ice Nine Kills would be a lot of fun.

9. Who not?

None of us really make that list. We're grateful for every opportunity to play.

10. Have Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

For me personally, it was submersion therapy. I went and did open mic nights every week for over a year. Just constantly being in front of people forced me over it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Cold, Blue October, System of a Down, Deftones, Seether

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I had a fan ask me for my guitar once. It was weird only because I had like 4 more shows on that tour. I kind of needed it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I love them. They're amazing, and at shows, they get us so amped up. We are always talking about ways to surprise them. Merch, covers, new songs, whatever we can do.

14. What do you think of our site?

I love it. I love the visual consistency. I know we're musicians, but the visual side of the role is very important in my opinion. And you guys really nail that.
