Interviews: Obscure Form

This is a new interview with the Progressive Metal/Death Metal artist Obscure Form from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on his FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

I had to think about it for a while. I wanted to think of something that was on the darker, negative, abstract side of things. I'm really into abstract things, so when I thought of Obscure Form, I thought it was perfect for what I'm doing musically.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I wanted to do something different. I've written a lot of songs and none of them were quite like they are on the EP. Plus, progressive metal is quite a difficult genre to master. So I wanted to challenge myself a little.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Well, it's just me in the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

My favorite band is always changing. It really depends on my mood and my tastes at that specific moment. Right now My overall favorite band is Dream Theater, but I'm sure that will change as time goes on.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think it's a mental thing where I just feel the need to write something almost every time I pick up the guitar. I've been writing for years now, so I think it would feel weird if I just play guitar without the intention of writing something.

6. Where was your last gig?

My last gig was in 2019 with this band I was in called Halothane. I was playing bass and it was my last show with them. It was a venue in Rochester, New York called Skylark I believe.

7. Where would you like to act?

Well I'm not much of an actor...

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Probably John Petrucci, even though he will make me look bad.

9. Who not?

I don't know... Lars Ulrich?

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

No never. If you have confidence in what you love doing, then you will probably be ok. Everyone's different, so that will vary from person to person, But any amount of confidence will always help.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I think Metallica was a big part of me wanting to play metal back when I was 12 years old. Then as I got older, I loved Death, Dream Theater, Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, and Children of Bodom. These days I take a lot of inspiration from solo artists and instrumental groups like Plini, Angel Vivaldi, Intervals, Animals as Leaders, and The Aristocrats.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Well it wasn't that weird, But someone asked me to sign my drum stick and if they could have it. Then proceed to tell me it will be worth something whenever I get famous. So yeah not the weirdest thing ever.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think just having them means I'm doing something right. But a lot of them usually message me and give me good feedback, which is always appreciated.

14. What do you think of our site?

Pretty cool, I discovered a few cool bands after looking at your site. I'll have to look at it more.

15. Something to add?

If anyone is interested, follow me on...
