Interviews: The Rift

This is a new interview with the Rock 'N' Roll band The Rift from the USA. Check out the interview!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

It was intentional when we were thinking of names we wanted a name that would suit us but also not pigeonhole us into one genre or style.  The Rift just seemed like a perfect fit because it’s pretty open-ended.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

For us, there’s nothing quite like the energy we get from playing rock and roll. I think fans of rock and roll all share that feeling, there’s just something special about it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we were actually great friends and in different bands but always jammed together And there was always chemistry musically between us, so when I had a bunch of bandmates quits turned out to be a blessing in disguise and we started The Rift at that time

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We probably would both say Metallica has such a great catalog of songs and one of the best bands that always stayed true to what they wanted to do.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Bad sushi, easy-legged women, aliens invading, robots inheriting the earth, the usual I guess. No we take inspiration from all over in all seriousness, we try to go with what we are feeling natural and let things develop from there.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was recently at a really cool place called Rock and Roll Pizza, the Foo Fighters played there a couple of times it’s a great spot and they share a bowling alley so lots of people in there for the most part, and great pizza!

7. Where would you like to perform?

My bucket list would be the Hollywood Bowl, we’ve grown up going to shows there and it’s an iconic venue.  Funny enough we have a shot to win an opening slot there in the fall through The Opening Act competition voting starts July 11th so go vote for us!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

It’d be cool to perform with The Predator he seems like a standup dude, probably good in at getting mosh pits going. No, really it’d be cool to play with any of our favorite bands the Foo Fighters, Metallica, Muse, System of a Down, The Sweet, Stone Temple Pilots, Gojira, In flames, I could go on haha too many to name!

9. Whom not?

Probably The Rift I hear those guys are jerks, and the signer is disturbingly pale.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I used to get super nervous and still get nervous but in a good way when we play now, I kind of just tried to reverse my mindset about it. Like look at the nerves as a good thing, it makes you know you are alive and just go out there and kick ass!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

For sure Metallica, the Foos, Muse, System of a Down, The Police, Rodrigo Garbriella, Maiden, In Flames, Gojira, Tool, The Sweet, Santana, Black Sabbath, Rise Against, Halestorm, Shinedown, Red hot chilli peppers, SoundGarden, Alice in Chains. A pretty eclectic group here but that’s just kind of how we roll

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To take a photo with them while they were holding a tooth they broke moshing to our set, Was a little unusual but I thought it pretty cool!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are awesome, incredibly passionate, and committed. We’ve got really big goals as a band and sometimes it can feel like we're far off from them, but we get messages all the time from people who really love what we do and that really inspires us to keep pushing.

14. What do you think of our site?

Super cool definitely got lost digging around new bands on there so much great stuff you guys are plugging \oo/
