Interviews: Havens

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Hardcore band, Havens from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

This originally started off as a solo/side project for myself, Michael. It sounds corny, but when coming up with the name, I was thinking about what music meant to me. When asking myself this question, “safe haven” kept coming to mind. After some ironing out of the idea, “Havens” is what I ultimately decided to go with.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Generally speaking, I believe it’s just what we connect and vibe with the most. Music is the strongest form of magic. 3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? Some of us, yes. Mark and I (Mike), went to the same middle school and high school growing up. Many years and bands later we both found ourselves in Polarities, our previous band before this. Joe and I (Mike) knew each other through the family. Steve and Chane we thankfully met through the scene.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Michael: Movements, Underoath, Nothing, Nowhere.

Mark: Saosin, Thrice, Tesseract

Steve: American Football, Glassjaw, Sunny Day Real Estate

Joe: Enter Shikari, My Morning Jacket, Scale the Summit

Chane: Casey, Daïtro, Movements

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life experiences. I also think it comes down to just the simple love for creating and making music.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at Burlington Bar in Chicago, IL with our good friends in Bouquet (IA) and Bottom Bracket (IL).

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere and anywhere possible. Going old school and playing live on top of a roof would be a cool thing to knock off the bucket list though!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

To be honest, any bands that we look up to!

9. Whom not?

Trapt.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Practice, practice, practice. The more comfortable you are, the better you’ll be, confidence is also key!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Michael: Some big influences on me I would say would have to be Cove Reber (ex-Saosin, Dead American) & Patrick Miranda (Movements)

Mark: Steve inspires me.

Steve: Biggest guitar influences gotta be David Gilmour and Jesus

Joe: Most inspirational band is Between the Buried and Me. The most inspirational bass players are Flea(RHCP) and Evan Brewer.

Chane: Tobias Schuler of Der Weg Einer Freiheit is definitely super inspirational, technique wise. Chris Turner of OAA as well, because he really demonstrated to young me a whole other level of crazy a** drumming.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing stands out, we’ve been lucky in that department! Nothing but good experiences thus far.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re the best! I wouldn’t say that we have many. But for the ones we do have, they do sure make us feel loved! It’s humbling, to say the least.

14. What do you think of our site?

A top-tier music blog that makes it a great way to get new music while keeping the consumer connected.

15. Something to add?

We recently put out two tracks along with videos, “Another Day” via Dreambound & “Resonate” via Spaceuntravel on YouTube. You can also find those tracks however you stream your music!
