Interviews: Premortal Breath

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metal band, Premortal Breathe from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Tommy (Vocals): The idea came up back in 2010. I played in a rock band called Constellation Chaos where we were searching for a new guitar player. Oliver Matthes joined and we thought about renaming our band as we also decided to play heavy metal instead of rock. So we brainstormed about the new name and Oliver one day came up with Premortal Breath. This name was so unique that we all just loved it and decided to go with it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Tommy (Vocals): All of our band members grew up with hard rock and/or heavy metal. So the decision was quite easy to also play heavier stuff. The genre of Premortal Breath is somehow hard to determine as we all have different influences which all come together during our songwriting. So you may find some songs that sound like Thrash, Power Metal, or Modern Metal. We don't stick to any genre but play what we like.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Tommy (Vocals): Partially. Tobbe and Se knew each other from studying at the same university. Tobbe already was part of the band when he suggested Seb as we were searching again for a guitar player. Our new member Matze is also playing together with our drummer Andy in a cover band so they also knew each other.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Tommy (Vocals): Disturbed, In Flames, FFDP, Parkway Drive, Dio, Testament, Manowar; Trivium, Iron Maiden, Metallica to name a few

Andy (Drums): Metallica, Rammstein, Slipknot to name a few

Matze (Bass): Rush, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Metallica to name a few

Tobbe (Guitars): Electric Callboy, In Flames and Disturbed to name a few

Seb (Guitars): Protest The Hero, Periphery, Fit For An Autopsy to name a few

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Tommy (Vocals): A certain mood. Sometimes I begin to write lyrics and Tobbe or Seb then knows exactly what I want to express with the same and how the song should sound like. The other way around is the same. Whenever they begin to write songs on the guitars I try to capture the mood and put it into lyrics.

6. Where was your last gig?

We just had an awesome gig at Hawk Fest 3 in Wiesloch. We released our new EP there and the crowd was just fantastic. They loved both, our songs from the past but also our brand new stuff. We are looking forward to more shows where we can convince people to get part of our family.

7. Where would you like to act?

Tommy (Vocals): Any gig is fine for us. We really love to play in a small pub in front of a bunch of people to party with. Also, we love to play in a bigger setup. Our wish is to enter some festivals to reach a broader audience. Festivals like Bloodstock, Wacken, Summer Breeze, Riedler Open Air, and Traffic Jam are currently in our focus which we try to apply for.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Tommy (Vocals): Well any of the above-mentioned favorite bands would be absolutely awesome. And we are sure we will one day. We are the Premortals. We´ll just do that.

9. Whom not?

Tommy (Vocals): Any band or musician with the wrong political or racial attitude. We just love the diversity in this world. There is no space to reject different orientations whether they may be gender, sexual orientation, religion, color, weight, differently abled, or whatsoever. We are one! Period!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Tommy (Vocals): Beer and shots! Not! It is OK to have a drink before or during the show but never go on stage without having control. Both you and the audience could not fully enjoy it. I am still suffering from stage fright even after 70+ shows. Accept it and go with it. Once the first tone is played on stage you will just enjoy and deliver. It is life and no playback so mistakes may happen and they will. Again it is a life that the crowd appreciates and they will forgive. By the way, lots of professional musicians from the big ones also still have stage fright. Nothing to shame.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Tommy (Vocals): Speaking for myself definitely Manowar, Metallica, and most recently In Flames, Trivium, Disturbed, and Parkway Drive. But also I like the current development of Bloodywood from India. I wish them all the best and the most success.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Tommy (Vocals): This shall remain a well-kept secret. Let your imaginations do the work for you.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Tommy (Vocals): Every band would call their fans the best. They are absolutely wrong! What makes the best fans? We get brownies or Muffins from Lisa whenever she can´t join one of our shows. She even writes a personal note and wishes us the best of luck for the gig. Tori, who comes to every show ever since we played at a local festival, is recruiting new fans to become part of our family. All of our fans join us on our yearly bus trip we organize to play a private show only for our fans in a pub. We even have a WhatsApp group with all of them to share news, get early feedback, and have fun. So sorry for all other bands around the globe. Premortal Breath has the best fans as we are also friends or even family.

14. What do you think of our site?

Tommy (Vocals): To be quite frankly I never heard of this site before. I just love the work of people like you who are offering bands like us a well-established platform to reach out to potential listeners, receive some honest feedback, and to share our work. This is highly appreciated.

15. Something to add?

Tommy (Vocals): First of all thanks so much for the questions and the opportunity to share some and spread some words about our band. It is just awesome that you give bands a platform. Please continue this great work. Maybe some people will hear us for the first time and may join our Premortal family. Everyone is very welcome.
