Behind The Artworks: COASTAL FIRE DEPT – Gouge Away (Single) (2022)

1. Who designed the artwork?

The single artwork is by Simon Larbalestier who also did all the Pixies iconic artwork. We’ve been speaking to Simon for a while and he was so kind to go through all of his work to find pieces for us to consider. We’d give him a topic and some ideas…then he’d share some photographs he had.

2. What does the cover artwork represent?

The eyeball in the artwork represents the eyes being gouged out in the story of Samson & Delilah which is retold in ‘Gouge Away’. We love the dark edgy early iconic Pixies artwork that was ground-breaking & really left field at the time. We wanted to capture something like that and of course why not go to the man that played a large part in that.
