Interviews: Grave Of Sacrifice

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Grave Of Sacrifice from Mexico. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It was pretty funny actually... one day after rehearsal, all the band members propose band names, you know, something “metal” but as English is not our native language, we came up with some silly ideas until we agreed that the word “grave” was pretty solid so we worked around that idea and then the full name came up to us... sounded good to our ears and after a web-fact-checking, we knew that the name was available, so there you have it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We think of our music as death metal. Now, death metal has evolved through the years and nowadays it’s one of the heavy genres that have spawned so so many sub-genres. Grave Of Sacrifice, as far as we know, plays straightforward aggressive, fast death metal, but obviously, we incorporate so many elements from other genres, even some from non-metal genres, especially on the bass lines.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we did. You see, Merida, where we all live currently, is a large city but with not so many people living here and the metal scene is even smaller, so it was kind of difficult if we have not known each other before we formed the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

That’s a tough one... our vocalist Ángel Cervera chose Tool; our bass player César really enjoys King Crimson, our guitar players Braulio Díaz and Pablo Caamal selected Decapitated and Pantera and our drummer Baruch Velázquez is a massive Metallica fan.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We really think is the urge to speak up about everyday issues that affect us all on some many levels you know, socially, financially, and emotionally even if our lyrics do not necessarily reflect that specifically... Mexico is such a beautiful country with so many problems because of the massive corruption and the shitty governments... We think is everyday life that drives us to write and play aggressive-fast music, our need to give energy to the audiences.

6. Where was your last gig?

As a novel band, we only have had one gig at a local venue, it was a very small event but we received a lot of positive feedback from the audience. Hopefully, with the upcoming release of our first EP we can book some gigs in our home town as well as in other Mexican cities, and why not? Maybe getting invitations to perform in foreign countries.

7. Where would you like to act?

As a metal band, our fantasy gig has to be the mighty Hellfest in France, the Wacken festival in Germany and so many other world-class festivals. We also would love to play as part of the Mexico Metal Fest in Monterrey and the Hell and Heaven Fest, two of the main festivals in Mexico and Latin America.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Another tough one... we would love to feature with so many bands that we cannot give you a name or two. Mexico right now have a lot of excellent, new metal bands and some “old school” acts that to this very day rock hard! So yeah, to be featured with any band we surely be thrilled and excited!

9. Whom not?

We have no grudges for anyone so next question...

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

As far as we know, anyone of us suffers from stage fright, but as any musician out there, we also were beginners, and more than once we almost shit our pants in front of the crowd, no matter if it were big or small. Advice? Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse and then, rehearse more!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Grave Of Sacrifice as a collective admires bands like Death, Gojira, Decapitated, Beyond Creation, Septicflesh, Lamb of God, and Megadeth.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Don’t know, has not happened yet!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have a strong loyal-local fan base in our city and we cannot have enough time to thank them so much for their support and patience. Also, we would like to invite every metalhead out there who is a part of the Breathing the core family to listen to our music, hopefully, you all are going to like it and we hope to get some new fans with our first EP.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s pretty cool that, in spite of we are not a metalcore or deathcore band, you guys have the time and patience to listen to our music and give us your attention and the time to get to know us so yeah, a huge shout-out to all the Breathing the core family, you rock!
