Interviews: Murnau

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Grunge band Murnau from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Taken from the silent film director, FW Murnau. The atmosphere and feel of his movies felt like a good match for the sound we were going for. Plus he had the limitations of black and white and silence when making films. Similar to how we limit ourselves as a two-piece when recording and playing live.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

There was no initial plan to be in a specific genre. We just started writing, but the influence of the types of music we often listen to can definitely be heard.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. Nick and I have known each other since grade school.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Hard to say. We’ve been doing it for 20 years and don’t know how to stop.

6. Where was your last gig?

Muscatine IA at a recent Film Festival after party

7. Where would you like to act?

Love to play overseas someday if the opportunity arose.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

So many. Placebo is high on the list both in terms of being such an influence and having similarities in sound.

9. Whom not?

Smashmouth

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Occasionally but it only lasts for those first few seconds and then I can usually take my mind off of that fear.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Smashing Pumpkins, Katatonia, Opeth, The Cure, Joy Division, Placebo, Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, Nirvana, Christian Death, too many to count!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Can’t think of anything. Our fans must be too normal.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re great. And too normal.

14. What do you think of our site?

Love it. Always appreciate people who take the time to write about and help promote others’ music.
