Interviews: Oceans On Fire

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Oceans On Fire from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name; you planned it or came out just like that?

We took the name from the song Colony Collapse by Architects from the line "They say the oceans on fire, say it isn't true". Architects were a big influence on us and we thought the name sounded right for the band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We are all big fans of metalcore, particularly the early 2000s sound made popular by bands like Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, and Unearth and we wanted to mix that with more modern influences, incorporating more modern metalcore characteristics.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Oceans On Fire started from the ashes of our old band that we formed in our teens that consisted of our vocalist Liam, and our two guitarists Jordan and Dani alongside old friends. The three of us went on to recruit Kerr and David on drums and bass respectively. Before either band, Dani and Liam have known each other since they were children and formed bands together in their teens when they met Jordan.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Liam Nisbet - Vocals: Killswitch Engage

Dani Heggie - Guitar: Silent Planet

Jordan Street - Guitar: Architects

David Falconer - Bass: Pantera

Kerr Milne - Drums: Lamb Of God

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

On a musical level, we are always writing, it is something that is deeply cathartic for us, lyrically, we have most often been influenced by ideas of existentialism, all the big questions, why are we here? What happens after we die? Super happy stuff like that!

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at Rad Apples in Dundee, Scotland for our TRINITY EP launch show. It was an absolutely brilliant night and we can't wait to play our next show!

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to perform in as many places as possible but if we are honest. playing the European festival circuit would be an absolute dream come true!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

As a band, we are pretty agreed on the fact that if we could have one featured artist on a song it would be Howard Jones from Light The Torch/ex-Killswitch Engage. He is one of the best vocalists in the genre in our eyes and his music has impacted us all a great amount!

9. Whom not?

We are pretty open-minded in all honesty, but if we had to pick one, we would most likely steer clear

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

We all feel pretty at home on stage, performing has become a natural part of our lives, when we were younger it was a lot more nerve-wracking. It might sound a bit stereotypical but the more you do it, the more comfortable you will get over time.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As a band we are most inspired by Killswitch Engage, The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying, Trivium, and Thy Art Is Murder.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our singer was been asked to take his shirt off at our last show, the rest of us don't want to see all that back hair!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We absolutely love our fans, the amount of support we have received over our small time as a band has been incredibly heart-warming and we never take it for granted, every act of support and kindness towards the band leaves us full of joy for days at a time!

14. What do you think of our site?

We think Breathing The Core is a brilliant website, it is so important to support small and upcoming bands which the site does incredibly well! If you ever run out of bands to listen to, this site will change that very quickly providing countless great bands to check out.

15. Something to add?

Our debut EP TRINITY is out now on all streaming services, each of the three tracks is part of a trilogy of singles, each with its own music video, and thank you to Breathing The Core for having us!
