Interviews: Upon Your Grave

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Upon Your Grave from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it, or came out just like that?

I could give you the biggest metaphorical explanation for the name Upon Your Grave. In truth we were teens and I ( Jordan) was not even in the band at that time. I think at sixteen years old, Upon Your Grave sounded metal and it just stuck!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Death Metal is really something we had in common in our tastes at the time and we wanted to create a band to reflect those interests. Each one of us comes from a different background in metal and Upon Your Grave was the bridge for us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

Yes We were all friends. Some of us went to the same high school, haha but we were all friends. I ( Jordan) was the last to be introduced to the band by Alex when he heard I was practicing extreme vocals.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Jordan Jolicoeur: Deftones

Alex Bussières: Steely Dan

Sim Diamond: Mercyful Fate

Yan Pelletier: Dying Fetus

Sebastien Gagné: Iron Maiden

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For our upcoming Album, ( concerning the vocal process and the lyrics ) I tried to depict sceneries and strong images which the auditor can play it out in his head. I'm a huge sci-fi guy and kind of a geek. So my inspirations for this EP vary from describing our first spatial encounter with an abomination from outer space in From Beyond to ascending with the means of technology, not unlike Ghost in the Shell in a dystopian future. I really wanted to tell more stories on this one.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at Le Petit Campus in Montreal on 07/08/2022 we are enjoying the summer since then!

7. Where would you like to act? 

Everywhere that will take up this bunch of sexy gazelles

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We like to party with whomever, no discrimination here, call us!

9. Whom not?

With people who don't like sexy gazelles.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that? 

Well, there is always that feeling when you are about to get on the stage( will something go wrong etc.. ). It never incapacitated anyone in the band but instead, we use this as fuel to wreck the stage. You only live once mentality with this and it works.

11. What bands have inspired you the most? 

So many bands and each one would be different for each band member. I think we would be here tomorrow morning if I would only begin haha.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

I think someone wanted us to sign their ass at the merch table once!

13. What do you think of your fans? 

What do we think of them? Well if some music we created from our inner selves can catch the attention of a listener and make them relate with our music to some extent, all I have for them is an immense love.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's really a great site! What I like the most is the track-by-track concept, I just really like reading the origins of songs from the source.
