Track By Tracks: Godiva - Hubris (2023)
Hubris Album:
Our new album, "Hubris," is a critique of the human condition in the 21st century. It
addresses the problem of ego and self-importance, particularly as it relates to the way
we present ourselves on social media. The concept of "hubris" refers to an overbearing
pride or arrogance, and we feel that this is a particularly relevant theme in our current
age, where people are often more concerned with creating and maintaining a certain
image online than with being genuine and authentic.
We tried to set the stage on each music, to focus in a new mythos, new Gods and new
Demons to get the message across, in a simple maner.
The album also touches on the issue of fake news and the impact it can have on our
society. In a world where information is readily available at our fingertips, it's
important to be able to critically evaluate the sources of that information and to
recognize when we are being fed false or misleading information. The album
encourages listeners to think critically and to resist the temptation to blindly accept
everything they see and hear.
One of the themes of "Hubris" is the way that social media and technology have
encouraged us to cultivate a curated image of ourselves, even at the expense of
authenticity and honesty. In the age of social media, it's easy to fall into the trap of
only presenting a polished, idealized version of ourselves online, rather than being
genuine and transparent.
This problem is compounded by the fact that many people are unaware of the extent
to which their personal data is being collected and sold by companies like Google and
Facebook. These companies profit by selling our data to third parties, who may use it
for any number of purposes, including targeted advertising and political propaganda.
The album "Hubris" encourages listeners to think more critically about the way they
present themselves online and to be more mindful of the information they share. It
also urges people to consider the implications of the data they are providing to these
companies and to take steps to protect their privacy.
We hope that this album will inspire listeners to be more mindful of their own actions
and to strive for greater humility and empathy in their daily lives.
It’s a call to action for people to think more deeply about their own motivations and to
consider the impact they have on the world around them.
1.Dawn:
"Dawn" is about exploring themes of survival, choice, and the human condition. The
lyrics describe the experience of being born into this reality and trying to matter, to
survive in a world that can be difficult and overwhelming at times. We are all struggling
to stay afloat in the face of challenges and hardships.
Our choices shape who we are and what we become, even if we are not always sure of
what we truly want.
This music tries to symbolize the struggles and challenges we face in life, as well as the
moments of enlightenment or understanding that can come through these struggles.
The feeling of being overwhelmed or burdened by the weight of our choices and the
responsibility that comes with freedom.
It´s an exploration of the human experience of trying to survive and make sense of the
world around us, and the choices we make that shape who we are.
2. Death of Icarus:
This song uses the myth of Icarus, to show the new dangers of hubris in this age.
Through arrogance and an excessively curated public image.
In the Greek myth of Icarus, he flew too close to the sun with wings made of feathers
and wax, and his downfall was the result of his own overconfidence and pride.
We tried to do a commentary on the dangers of being deceived or misled by
appearances or superficial appearances. A cautionary tale, urging everyone to face
their own reality and mortality. The ultimate outcome of Icarus's hubris was his death.
Overall, it’s about deception and the dangers and consequences of overconfidence
and pride.
3. The Meaning of life:
Connecting to Goethe’s work, where there is an allusion of the realization of being self-caged or self-entrapment. We are our own jailers and the terror of the futility of life.
Running through the Rat Mase, without a point.
We tried to explore the themes of suffering, confusion, and the search for meaning in
life. The lyrics try to describe the begging and the inescapable path that flows to an
inevitable end, describing the experience of waking up in anguish and feeling pain and
suffering in every aspect of life, from the simple things that bring us down to the steps
we take in pain.
We tried to pass these realities in a very bucolic fashion, to symbolize the simplicity of
a so big truth, connecting to one of the two biggest demons ever present in the
background, “time” and “isolation”. With the repetition of the phrase "everything aches...
everything dies" we try to expose the ultimate inescapable realization that
suffering and death are central to the human experience.
A commentary on the difficulty of finding purpose or understanding in a world that can
seem confusing or meaningless at times. But ultimately everything has the same fate
and share most of the journey. The search for meaning is closely tied to negative
emotions and experiences, and that finding meaning in life may be a difficult or painful
process.
Overall, the lyrics of "The Meaning of Life" try to explore the themes of suffering,
confusion, and the search for meaning in life.
4. Media God:
Media God attempts to do a direct critique of the way that traditional media and new
media operate in the 21 st century. Attempt to create an allegory if modern times,
creating a bridge between the way that people reacted to traditional religions and the
way that people react to the perceived Truth that is presented in Media. And
borrowing the intent and artistic work of Neil Gaimans American Gods.
"Media God" tries to express disillusionment and despair about the state of the world,
and the way it is portrayed in the media. As everyone is overwhelmed by the negativity
and violence they see in the media and feels powerless to change it.
The idea of being "indoctrinated" by the media suggests that people are more
concerned with what they see on the "news reel" than with what is truly real. This
should be interpreted as a commentary on the way that media can shape our
perceptions and beliefs, and the dangers of being too reliant on it for information.
It’s a metaphor for the power and influence of the media in our lives and the way that
people are drawn to the media and are influenced by it.
5. The all-seeing eye:
The new Demon or God, depending on the perspective of the beholder, is the new
hidden fact of the internet-free services, like Gmail, social networks, etc. That collects
uses and sells your data to someone. The cost of “The Free” and its dangers, like
Cambridge Analytica and others.
The lyrics of "The All-Seeing Eye" seem to be exploring the theme of surveillance and
the way that technology has made it easier for our personal information and data to
be tracked and collected.
The lyrics describe a digital world where "everything is free" and "every second
recorded," suggesting that our online lives are constantly being monitored and
tracked.
The lyrics also reference "the pixels of your life stolen" and "everything stored, where
you will never know," which could be interpreted as a commentary on the way that
our personal data is collected and used by companies and organizations without our
knowledge or consent, like a hidden currency.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of being graded or judged based on the online
persona that we present, with references to "trending scores" and "likes" as indicators
of our value or worth.
It suggests that our online lives are being used for the benefit or profit of others and
raises the question of who is really benefiting from this arrangement.
Overall, the lyrics of "The All-Seeing Eye" seem to be exploring the theme of
surveillance and the way that technology has made it easier for our personal
information and data to be tracked and collected. The song may be urging listeners to
be mindful of the way their online lives are being tracked and used and to consider
the implications of this surveillance on their privacy and autonomy.
6.Faceless:
"Faceless" is exploring the theme of other “overbearing God / Demon” of globalization
and its impact on individual identity.
The lyrics describe globalization as a "miracle of modern living" and a "beacon of light
in dark times," but also as a "virus" that is "spreading" and "engulfing everything." The
song tries to present a nuanced view of globalization, recognizing its potential benefits
but also cautioning against its potential negative consequences.
The lyrics describe how globalization can cause individuals to "fade" and "disappear"
into a "sea of bytes," suggesting that it can lead to a loss of individuality and a merging
into a faceless mass.
The lyrics also reference "subliminal commandments" that tell people to "comply" and
"stand up or die," which could be interpreted as a commentary on the pressure to
conform to certain societal norms or expectations.
Overall, the lyrics of "Faceless" seem to be exploring the theme of globalization and its
impact on individual identity, presenting a nuanced view of its potential benefits and
negative consequences. The song may be urging listeners to be mindful of the ways in
which globalization can erode individual identity and resist the pressure to conform
to certain expectations or norms.
7. Empty Coil:
The lyrics of "Empty Coil" explore themes of confusion, despair, and feeling trapped or
stuck in life. The song describes the speaker feeling overwhelmed and trapped, with
the walls closing in and the ceiling falling. It speaks to the experience of feeling like we
are running in circles and going nowhere and the feeling of the door closing behind us.
The song also touches on the idea of being "stringless puppets," suggesting that we
may feel like we have no control over our lives and are being pulled along by unseen
forces. It speaks to the idea of "fading images" of what we could have been, which may
refer to regrets or missed opportunities. The lyrics also explore the theme of
obsession, suggesting that we may feel overwhelmed by things we cannot change or
control.
Overall, "Empty Coil" is a song that speaks to the universal experience of feeling lost
and confused in life, and the struggle to find meaning and direction. It encourages
listeners to recognize and acknowledge these feelings, and to find ways to cope with
them.
8. Black Mirror:
"The lyrics of 'Black Mirror' explore themes of depression, isolation, and the illusion of
control. In a word, it’s the new great Demon of our times “Depression”.
The feeling of being weighed down by their own thoughts and struggling with the
'depression of living' and the sense of time wasted. It also touches on the theme of
isolation feeling 'caged' by their own sense of self.
Overall, the song seems to be exploring the ways in which these themes impact the
human experience and may be urging listeners to consider their own lives in this
context." Trying to expose the sad reality that mental health issues are the new scurge
that humanity faces in these times.
9. Godspell:
"Godspell" is a song that explores themes of survival, conformity, escapism, and the
search for meaning in a difficult and uncertain world. Connecting to the need for a new
god, self-empowerment through difference, and through embracing our idiosyncrasy’s
fend off the new Demon “Isolation”, that connects to everything else.
By merging two words God and Spell we try to encourage a good message,
urging people to embrace their fantasies, and their imagination, to embrace the freedom
to be different and to create their own path. And to embrace the idea of escapism into
fantasy, to escape the crudeness of the real world.
Stating that it’s fine, it’s normal, and good to take control of their own lives and to
create their own meaning and purpose.
Overall, the lyrics of "Godspell" seem to be exploring the human experience of trying
to survive and find meaning in a difficult and uncertain world embracing their own
differences.
10.Hubris:
Hubris is a critique of the way that people present themselves and the world around
them. The lyrics describe a "photoshopped reality" and a "glass world built upon
shadows," suggesting that people are more concerned with creating and maintaining a
certain image than with being genuine and authentic.
The song also touches on the issue of propaganda and the way that it can mislead and
manipulate people. We also address the concept of hubris, describing it as
"arrogance," "vanity," "pride," "gall," and "hubris." These try to suggest an overbearing
sense of self-importance and a lack of humility. All of this will lead to negative
consequences.
Overall, we are criticizing the way that people present themselves and the world
around them and are urging listeners to resist the temptation to cultivate a false or
inflated image of themselves. The song tries to encourage people to be mindful of the
dangers of propaganda and hubris, and to strive for authenticity and humility in their
lives.
