Interviews: Liquid State

Welcome to this interview with Liquid State, a high-energy Alternative Rock/Post-Hardcore band hailing from the UK! Comprised of four talented musicians, this group is known for their intense live performances and hard-hitting sound. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to stay up-to-date on all their latest news and releases!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Honestly, it was so long ago but I think it was something as simple as it just popped into my head as a potential song title, but we liked it a lot, and at this stage had no band name. So voila, Liquid State was born.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

For all of us rock and metal has been our favourite genres of music since we were kids, so it was inevitable really that if we became musicians ourselves it would be within these genres.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Myself (Keren) and Kray were (still are) in a relationship and we were working together as an acoustic duo at the very start, Harry and Ben didn’t join until 2017 when Kray met them at uni.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Mine is currently Boston Manor, Bens is always the classics like Metallica, Krays is Northlane and Harry’s will be Arcane Roots until the day he dies.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

A lot of our songs lyrically are written about situations that we’ve been in personally, so they all come from a deep place with an actual story. Dream State are a band that also tells a story well through their lyrics so I’d say that subconsciously I’ve taken inspiration from their lyric writing ability as I’ve listened to them quite a lot in the past.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Bristol to finish up on a ‘lil weekender we had going with Adharma.

7. Where would you like to act?

The end goal is always going to be playing huge arenas on long-ass tours, but in the meantime to step out of the UK and play abroad would be amazing!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A feature with Boston Manor, I reckon that would be cool as fuck.

9. Whom not?

No bands in mind, but working with huge egos is something that would drive us mad, we’re all such laid back people, where not here to fight over who’s the best in the building.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

We all at one point have suffered from anxiety before the show, I can usually tell I’m nervous pre-show because my gums start itching, although it’s not usually until I get up on stage that I feel the nerves. It’s exciting nerves though. I don’t have any tips unfortunately apart from you’ll just get used to it and the buzz you feel after the show is worth every ounce of anxiety you feel at the start.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We all take lots of different inspirations for lots of bands, for me, Charlie from As Everything Unfolds is who I take inspiration from Vocally. For Harry and Kray inspiration would be Arcane Roots; a band that instrumentally was so technical and interesting to listen to, as well as an insane live light show; which is what ours has been modeled on. Ben finds inspiration from fellow up-and-coming bands who are in the same scene as us.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don’t think we’ve had anything too weird, we did have a couple though who asked Harry for his drumsticks… before we’d even played. Watching Harry try to explain how he kinda needed them was quite amusing.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Obviously, we adore them. There’s nothing more exhilarating than hearing people sing the lyrics back to us and asking for photos with the band after the show. We love each and everyone one of ‘em!

14. What do you think of our site?

There’s a lot of content on the website! We especially like the ‘behind the artwork’ section, there are some interesting write-ups on there.

15. Something to add?

We love to chat! If you like our music and want to get to know us to feel free to pop us a message, we’ll always reply, and if you’re a musician and want to cover any of our songs we’ll happily send you the stems!
