Van Houten - Interview

Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Hardcore Punk band Van Houten from New Zealand, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?  

It just came out one day, we're big Simpsons fans and so we took our name from Milhouse and Kirk van Houten. They're dweebs like us, it captured the theme of being the underdog.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?  

It's relatable. It speaks to us more than other genres. There's a raw, unadulterated passion that you don't always find in other styles of music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?  

Yes, unfortunately. We've been friends pretty much forever so it just seemed natural.

4. Each band member favourite band?  

Ethan - Anthrax

Rory - Linkin Park

Liam - Descendents

SJ - AFI

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?  

Life experiences and tough times.

6. Where was your last gig?  

442, a local AA venue. We played with Too Late, who you should totally check out.

7. Where would you like to act?  

924 Gilman St, CA or the Electric Factory, PA in America are our goal venues to play. Getting over to a Australia would be a good start though. There's nowhere we wouldn't want to play.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?  

Scott Vogel, Henry Rollins, Milo Auckerman, Bill Stevenson, basically anyone who has inspired us in what we do.

9. Whom not?  

The dude from Lost Prophets. Warped tour bands that charge kids through the teeth for selfies. Anyone that's sexist, racist or promotes stink vibes.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yeah it's pretty intimidating sometimes, and some members of our band suffer it more than others. It's all part of growing as a band I guess.Tips for beginners? It gets easier.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?  

Ethan - Iron Mind, Too Late and Code Orange

Rory - Linkin Park, Cold World and Expire.

Liam - Trapped Under Ice, Turnstile, Backtrack and Descendents

SJ - Comeback Kid, Stick To Your Guns and Defeater

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?  

"How do you pronounce your band name?" is a common one. No weird requests yet though.

13. What do you think of your fans?  

Our local scene has been really supportive and we're grateful that people come out to our shows and get hyped on our music. It's a great feeling when people from all over the world hit us up on facebook or twitter with positive feedback. It's very humbling.

14. What do you think of our site?  

It's awesome that there are sites where underground and up-and-coming bands can get some exposure and we hope it continues.
