Interviews: Haddock
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Melodic Hardcore band Haddock from Spain, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them.We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Basically it was Ramon’s idea, he has a bunch of paintings of Tintín around his house, so one day he just came up with the idea of Haddock, we thought it was cool so that was it. It doesn’t really have a moral or ideological meaning behind it.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Well, we started as a Symphonic Dembow band and ended up playing Melodic Hardcore…life is hard sometimes. No, but really, we always loved this genre and what we saw was that it was not even close to something popular here in Spain, so of course that was a positive aspect. We’ve taken a lot amount of time to finally feel comfortable with the music we create. Hopefully our EP Debut will help this “new” scene to get bigger and bigger, specially in this country.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Unfortunately, yes. We’ve known each for quite a few years now. Some of us had bands in the past, some of them were more serious than others, but yes, we got to meet long time ago. Everyone’s pretty close to the rest in the band so we never get to deal with big inner problems.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Álvaro (Singer): La Dispute
Rodrigo (Guitarrist): Touché Amoré
Leonardo (Bassist): H2O
Ramón (Guitarrist): Weezer/Amaral
Eduardo (Drummer): Queen
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our lyrics are pretty much always based on personal true experiences, and even they may appear to be a bit sad or pessimist or just criticizing the things we don’t think that are correct in our society, they have a message of positivism behind them, or at least that’s what we try to.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was the past 24th of October in Silikona, playing with the americans Capsize and with our great friends from Just for Revenge. In case you don’t know these bands you should definitely check them out!
7. Where would you like to act?
Well, having the chance to dream a little bit here it would incredible to play at festivals like Groezrock or Reading, and also in clubs like Chain Reaction. But for now, it’d be great to tour our own country.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Definitely Jordan Dreyer from La Dispute and Sam Carter from Architects. Both great lyricists, singers and performers.
9. Whom not?
With Attila or bands that represent the same things as them, due to ideological reasons.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Some of us still continue suffering a little bit with that sometimes unfortunately, probably because of shyness issues but it’s something we’re definitely working on and improving every time we practice and in every gig as people are starting to notice. And about the advice for beginners, well, we suggest taking a shit right before playing (may sound stupid, but it works to reduce tensions and to breathe more quietly). Another very important advice that many people forget is to warm up for a few minutes before getting on stage, it really really helps to play and perform better.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Worthwhile, Counterparts, Landscapes, Capsize and Casey. Of course there are more bands but those ones are the most important ones.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Usually people ask us “Who is Ramón?”. Apparently nobody knows who our guitarist Ramón is, so whenever someone of the band is talking about him and there’s people around who isn’t they tend to get really confused and end up asking that. That’s probably the weirdest and the only thing actually.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Fa…what? Never heard that before.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think it’s very important that sites like yours exist. We do believe they are really important to help young musicians and specially small bands (no matter what age) to get known and shared, not only in their country, but globally. Nowadays it’s essential to be very active in the social media, so all our support for your page!
15. Something to add?
Viva Haddock!
