Track By Tracks: Vox Vocis - In The Arms Of The Sun (2016)

Vox Vocis are gearing up to release their new album, ‘In the Arms of the Sun’ on January 22nd, and this is the band’s personal insight into the meaning behind each song of their upcoming album. Here’s their socials:
1. Ad Initium Casso:
This was one of the first songs written for the album. Ad Initium used to be an eight-minute-long ode to old school prog. There was this three minute interlude, a drastic mood change that kind of did nothing. When Alex joined the band we really trimmed the fat. It was during that cutting down that we realized Alex was a really good fit for us.
2. Erroneous Anacrusis:
Erroneous Anacrusis predates the founding of the band. It was originally a track called 'Dial Tone Disaster,' in a previous members' band called Beauty Shoots Beast. We took the lyrics of the song and re-purposed it for our concept.
3. Breathe:
Breathe was fucking cool right from the beginning. We all really enjoyed the song pretty much as soon as Alex showed us the demo. It was the last song we wrote for the album. The lead guitar part during the chorus is most ambitious guitar part in the album.
4. Terror, River Gypsy:
Gypsy was originally written by Alex and Alejandro with a drummer from another band for a different concept album because we don't know how to write about actual feelings. It ended up working out really well for the section of the concept its in, so it too was assimilated.
5. Side Effects Take Effect:
Side Effects is one of the oldest songs on the album. None of us were really happy with it until we experimented in recording. The solo over the 7/4 was written minutes before recording it on the EP.
6. Anacrusis in a Crisis:
Easily the most fun title to say, but we only ever call it Crisis. It’s the first song we wrote entirely together. It features a passage that is in 9/8, 10/8, 9/8, 12/8, which took forever for us to nail.
7. Winter Queen:
Winter Queen also came from an older project, and used to be about aliens invading and taking over the earth. Its somehow changed what it is about several times, without changing the lyrical content.
8. A Fire Favored:
Probably the most straight forward lyric wise. We wrote it and put it on the EP but didn't play it for a year later, and when we did it was in a completely different form. It used to be in 5/4 but became a ballad when we recorded the album.
9. This Hardened Heart:
Another one we fell in love with as soon as we started. We rushed to finish this and its been in every show since then. When we recorded the line 'I forgot my part' on this track, our producer Stephen Adwell thought Alex had legitimately forgotten the lyrics, and stopped the cut.
10. In The Arms of The Sun:
We unintentionally finished writing this song a year after we started it. It used to be an 11-minute-long song, but luckily we trimmed it down to a digestible nine and a half minutes. We reprise the guitar parts from Crisis at the end of this song because it worked musically and thematically, but I accidentally ended up using too much reverb and created a pad.
