Interviews: No//Liars

In this new occassion we have had the pleasure to interview the Hardcore Punk band No//Liars, from Canada. Check out this band because they are amazing and do not forget to follow them in their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

When I started writing the songs, I wanted them to have a dark edge to them.  Without thinking about it I named them Liars, which turned into No Liars.  It's a statement, but also a conundrum in itself because are there really no liars?

There's a little bit of darkness in everyone and I wanted to celebrate that.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We all grew up listening to bands like The Offspring, The Used, Alexisonfire, Thrice... it was honestly just what came out!  It's really fast and technical at times but also fun and catchy.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We had all played in various projects together, Mike (drums) Eric (guitar) and Jon (bass) were playing in my indie rock band at the time, and I basically stole them for this one and added our friend Morley on vocals who had played with Mike and Eric in a band called The Harbour Sound.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Noah: Thrice

Morley: The Used

Eric: Jimmy Eat World

Mike: As Cities Burn

Jon: Between the Buried and Me

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Anything that causes strong emotional response.  Our music is an outlet for us - we're otherwise really nice chill guys but we like to get out the angst in our songs.  We draw from Relationships, friendships, politics, and major life themes.
6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig by the time everyone reads this will be in Vancouver BC, and Victoria BC with Anti Flag! We love those dudes, huge honour to be sharing the stage with such a classic name in Punk.

7. Where would you like to act?

We'd love to head over to Europe! I (Noah) did some travelling in Spain with my girlfriend in the fall of 2015 and it seems like there's a really amazing music scene over there in Barcelona and Madrid atleast, and of course the rest of Europe would be unbelievable.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Its a dream to share the stage with Thrice, they've been a big influence on a lot of us and it would mean a lot to share the stage with someone we consider heroes.

9. Whom not?

Probably any bands that draw people who don't like angry music? I think if we were slotted before Bon Iver (as amazing as he is) our set might not go over so well...

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

It's a scary thing to start, I still get nervous every time before I go on stage.  I think the most important part is just letting go once your on stage and having fun.  Once the audience feels your just there to have a good time with them, they'll give back to you and it's one of the most rewarding experiences there is.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Definitely bands like Thrice, or another Canadian acts like Alexisonfire and Pup.  It's not easy to make it in our country because of the long drives between cities - even where we are from we live on Vancouver Island and its expensive taking the ferry to get on the mainland.  These bands are also relentlessly independent and made things happen for themselves playing in styles of music that are hard to get big recognition for, at least in Canada.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I've been asked if I can have a bead woven into my hair/beard.  It just totally caught me off guard.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They're passionate music fans, and usually really really nice people! It's been really cool seeing who is drawn to our music and really liking and connecting with them!

14. What do you think of our site?

It's awesome! Thanks for doing the hard work of finding and promoting rad bands, we're honoured to be a part of it.

15. Something to add?

We just released a music video for the song 'Catalyst" off of our Debut EP, check it out and let us know what you think!
