Interviews: Carried Away

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band Carried Away, from USA. Check out this band because they are starting and their hardcore is amazing.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

This is Mitch from Carried Away. I’ll be talking. You know, I must have made it up a couple years ago. Carried Away is a phrase I use a lot — Carried Away is basically my life because I have a serious case of Tourette’s and I tend to get pretty consumed every time I work on a project. So it seemed fitting. It’s funny, there’s a Canadian pop-punk with a hot chick singer band that stole our name, but no hard feelings.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Hardcore is a great musical genre all in itself. It’s unlike anything else in the rock world — it’s a blend of hip-hop and heavy punk rock. There’s all kinds of sub portions of the hardcore world. Youth crew is a personal fav.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we’re all friends. Half of Carried Away plays in the band Scuzbot from PA.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We all like a bunch of shit. I guess you could say we all like Title Fight. Mitch doesn’t like TF anymore though, he misses the shredding sound from their earlier years.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Lol. Growing up with Tourettes, freaking out on my friends, volatile relationships, failing at things, and also bragging about being the man (Don’t Look)  In this band, Mitch writes the material and forces his friends to play the shit out of the songs, so he can act like Fred Durst.

6. Where was your last gig?

We haven’t played a first show yet as a full band. On July 17th, I’m playing as a 2-piece in Philadelphia with Fucking Invincible and some other hardcore bands. Might do a gig or two, then we’ll do the full-band, it’ll be tight as fuck.

7. Where would you like to act?

In a warehouse or a high school.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Maybe Mental from Boston. One of the best bands ever. Newer bands? God’s Hate. Their new album has an awesome sound.

9. Whom not?

Wouldn’t want to be caught on stage with Flag. And definitely not Blink 182 with Matt Skiba

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I guess it’s different for everyone. I’d say just be yourself, and it should work out. Improv is like way harder. If you try to act like something you’re not, it'll show through.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I’m forever fascinated with the  nu-metal era., so I always loved Limp Bizkit, especially their first 3 cd’s. Eminem and Bob Wilson from Mother of Mercy inspired me to pick up a microphone when I was a teenager, and I still admire his delivery. Everyone once loved Blink 182 so we can cross that off the list. I don’t know. I only like  real musicians. But mostly 2000’s pop punk and hardcore. Alien Ant Farm is another cool nu-metal band. Our bassist Max’s band once opened for them.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I was once huddled  by a crowd of screaming girls in West Chester; they made me kiss their friend. I felt cool. I hope it made her night.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans right now are mostly our friends from the PA area... I definitely hope people outside our clicks like Carried Away, but in the end, it doesn’t matter. We just make music to make music. It has to be good, and it has to be tight. We like it, so that’s really all that matters. So far, we’ve gotten a lot of support from the bands we know through music over the years.  Expressive music tends to either move people or push them away.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is cool, just don’t fall in line with all the wannabe try hards!! I run a business outside of the music world, and I think it’s so important to stand out from everyone else. Big pictures are important, but It’s always the little things people notice, ya know?

15. Something to add?

Yeah. Good Times from South Jersey has a new record coming out later this year, it’s supposed to be awesome, I can’t wait. I know they’ve been working on that forever now. Steve’s brother is the drummer, and he rules on drums. SCUZBOT also has a new record coming out too, they just put out a single.Timebomb is another cool hc band from Philly. I’m personally trying to bring back a gig for Sawed Off in PA and invite Wrath and Ruin (Agitator dudes) to play with us. We’ll see how it plays out for everyone. I’m thinking that’ll be a benefit show for Tourette Syndrome in Bucks County, PA. I’ll make sure all proceeds go toward our Eastern PA chapter. Go Sixers.
