Interviews: Survive This!

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview  the Post-Hardcore/Electronic band Survive This!, from USA. Check out this band because they are amazing and do not forget to follow them in their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

When trying to come up with names the origin originally came from a cartoon. But we didn't want our name to be based off of that. The words just really stuck. It was leaving a ringing in our ears. Survive This! Became more of a statement. To be a survivalist in the world. To find your self worth and empowerment to push forward. To find the strength to get up and continue when life is trying to push you down. We try to stay positive through or music and our everyday lives. We wanted our name to encompass that

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We never really choose a genre per say. It's more of what is happening in our lives to influence the sound were creating. There are times when all we do is write mellow acoustic music and other times when we really just need to thrash our guitars and bang on something. So really we just play what is enjoyable. Something that keeps us motivated and feeling young and inspired.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. Billy and I (Shawn) are cousins. Daniels been Billy's best friend since grade school. Aj was always running around in the music scene with us and Mike the guy that knows everyone. If you needed your music recorded right, Mike was the only logical choice and in my opinion still is.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Shawn: I don't really have a favorite band. That is just to hard for me to pick. i have go to albums depending on my mood, but to select just one is just unfair lol Beartooth has been taking up my time as of lately.

Billy: I can't stop jamming zac brown band

Daniel: Queen has always been a big part of my musical life.

Aj: I get made fun of all the time in the band, but its Creed haha or anything thats really from the 90 band era.

Mike: It´s always been defttones.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Shawn: I always pull from everyday life. just how i feel at the moment. a lot of the times i feel like the music speaks to me. i will free style a few ideas over it until something just feels comfortable or right. Sometimes i just have a feeling that has to get out. nothing helps me more than to concentrate that into a song. its almost like putting that feeling to rest or settling my thoughts.

Billy: My parents and my bandmates.

Daniel: When i come across a chord progression that a good melody fits with

Aj: Nintendo soundtrack scores haha seriously tho I've written my own game sounds in my free time

Mike: I make records for a living so just being around and working on music constantly everyday

6. Where was your last gig?

We just played a headliner in Las Vegas at the Vinyl inside Hard Rock Casino and it was an absolute blast!

7. Where would you like to act?

If by act you mean play, than we have been dying to go over seas. Japan, Australia, all parts of Europe. It's been a big dream to take this band over seas
8. Whom would you like to feature with?

NA.

9. Whom not?

I would love to get creative with a few people. Justin Timberlake would be a very fun and interesting twist that I think could work with us. Chino from deftones I'm sure would be on Mikes list. Spencer Chamberlin or Aaron Gillespie would just be killer. I almost wouldn't mind doing something with Blake Shelton or pharrell for that matter.  As far as who I wouldn't. Hmmm that's an interesting question. I'm sure there's a bunch of rappers that I wouldn't care to much for. I don't know if I could completely cross someone off until I heard what they could bring to the table. Because let's be honest no matter who you are if its garbage it's garbage lol

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think stage fright is one of the main things that make live entertainment so much fun. It's really an adrenalin rush. Truthfully things are going to go wrong at some point and your not going to be perfect everyday. I think if you don't have butterfly's before stage your not doing it right. It's your passion take those butterfly's and March right onto that stage as soon as those lights hit your eyes and a song starts its just you doing what you love to do. There's no reason to be scared of doing what you love to do.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Shawn: The Used really changed my thought process on what music could sound like. Than underoath really set the bar for me placing me into an entirely new path. but i pull from such different places. Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks are on the top of my music adventure.

Billy: As far as drumming- underoath, August burns red, periphery, northlane

Daniel: Obviously queen, and any band that finds a way to stick a good riff or melody in my head by doing something unique.

Aj: Adam Jones of Tool & Sevendust

Mike: Deftones, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, In:Aviate, Sevendust, Slipknot

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Shawn: Someone wanted my bloody sweaty shirt

Billy: I was asked if they could twist the ends of my mustache

Aj: I was asked for my socks haha

Mike: I've never been asked anything since fans still have yet to realize I'm in the band #bassplayerproblems

13. What do you think of your fans?

Honestly amazing. The fans we meet have such big hearts. They bring such emotional stories to the table at our shows. Its very rewarding. it almost gives you some sort of purpose or reason to keep going.
