Interviews: MIDWEEK

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Punk  band MIDWEEK from UK

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I (Joseph) spent ages trying to come up with some cool/alternative name that would suit the genre and I even fucking went on band name generator haha. But then I was watching Sky Sports and they kept saying "during the Midweek game" and I just thought it sounded cool. I also think now that everytime they say "Midweek" they're giving us a shout out haha.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted to play this genre because we all grew up listening to bands like Jimmy Eat World, Green Day, Lower Than Atlantis whatever. Never wanting to sound exactly like they do, but to make music inspired by them, and for our music to fit in with the same world as them. We just basically wanted to not sound like Blink 182 haha. We all love Blink though.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

So me (Joseph) and Chris met at uni as we're in the same year. Kyle and Ross are in the year below us so that's how they met and we all just decided to join together to make Midweek.

4. Each band member favourite band?

My favourite band (Joseph) - The Smashing Pumpkins
Chris' - Lower Than Atlantis
Ross' - Fleetwood Mac
Kyle - (Pre 21st Century Breakdown) Green Day.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Just things that happen in my life and I feel then like writing a song about it to sort of process it. My earliest inspiration to write a song was Julian Casablancas of The Strokes. Just thought he was amazing.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at The Frog & Fiddle in Cheltenham which was our first headline gig to celebrate the release of our single "Honey, Darling".

7. Where would you like to act?

We'd love to play some legendary venues such as The Roundhouse in London, Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff and ANY O2 Academy. These would be cool.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We'd love to play with the boys in Boston Manor or like Real Friends or something. That would be amazing.

9. Whom not?

I don't think us playing with Sam Smith would quite work haha.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think we all get those pre-gig stage jitters. When we're on stage then it's usually all good. I'd recommend to beginners to just let the adrenaline consume you and use it to push you to play a great show. Getting drunk also works sometimes too - although it's probably not advisable.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Lower Than Atlantis (earlier albums), Basement, Jimmy Eat World, Taking Back Sunday. All great bands that should inspire anyone because they're that good.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We don't have any fans! Haha. But we usually get the old "when you're big and famous don't forget to give us some money because we saw you when you first started out" which is quite annoying. We're also never going to be famous haha.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Unbelievably supportive! Couldn't do what we do without them.

14. What do you think of our site?

Very cool! It's a really good and informative way of finding new alternative music.
