Interviews: Ian Abel Band
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Ian Abel Band from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Good question. We played around with different names for the backing band, similar to Stevie
Ray Vaugh & Double Trouble or Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band, but we didn’t like
anything we came up with so we stuck with Ian Abel Band. Also, there was another guy using my
name and I didn’t want to get confused with anything he makes.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We made no conscience decision to play any specific style or genre. It’s just what we do and
who we are.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Vaguely. I knew Wes from High School, but met Kenny in 2016 and immediately started jamming
with him. Karthik I had met in 2015, but he only became available recently so I snagged him up.
4. Each band member favorite band?
That’s a bit of an unfair question because we are all so inspired by so many different musical
acts across numerous genres. It’s more of a, “what are we feeling today” type of vibe. However,
mine is Pink Floyd, Kenny’s most likely Tool, Wes is into Mojave 3, Karthik’s would be Primus and
Jah comes from a worship background. He’s blessed like that.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Some songs are documenting different experiences I’ve had, others are maybe inspired by a
phrase a friend or stranger may say at a bar. Inspiration can come and the most random of
circumstances so it’s best to always be open and ready to receive it.
6. Where was your last gig?
The world famous Troubadour!
7. Where would you like to act?
My mom would probably say I “like to act up any chance I get.”
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
I’d love to be able to write a song with Chris Stapleton or Jason Isbell.
9. Whom not?
- Probably Justin Bieber haha
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Probably early on in our performing careers (like high school), but now not so much. The only
advice to give is, don’t worry about looking cool or making sure you play exactly like you’ve
imagined; just get out there and kick ass.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The songwriting of Chris Stapleton or Jason Isbell. The guitar mastery of Pink Floyd, Slash and
Randy Rhoads. And the ballsiness of Skynyrd or AC/DC.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Every show someone asks for my underwear and who am I to not give the fans what they want?
13. What do you think of your fans?
Absolutely love them. Ever since we licensed our song “Shoes” for the AEW pay-per-view, the
influx of new fans from all around the world has been remarkable. So many amazing people
have reached out and said how much that song in particular means to them and I am very
thankful for that.
14. What do you think of our site?
Nice layout; easy to peruse. Overall fans of it.
