Interviews: DEAD|LOVE
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore Punk band DEAD|LOVE from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Funny enough I actually had this band name sitting on ice for a long time. It came from a conversation I was having with a woman I was dating like 8 years ago. Can't remember the context of the conversation but I remember saying it and thinking "Great Band Name" and wrote it down. We have a friend in Taos NM where we are from who always had this ongoing joke. He said "When you die and get to the gates of heaven, you will need to have 3 great band names in order to pass thru the gates and get into heaven" lol...It stuck in my head and for some reason I still to this day compile a list of band names. Needless to say, I got the 3 needed to be covered if there is, in fact, a gate and/or even heaven ;p
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Well, I spent many years touring with Skarhead and the NYHC scene so that is, of course, a huge part of it, but it goes back even further. When I was 15, Norm (Drummer) and I were best friends (Still are) and we wanted to start a band. We were both influenced by the punk rock / Hardcore scene and also the skateboard scene that was closely attached to this music style. The first band we ever started was a punk band in my living room called "Capt Kirk & The Cameltoes" . So, this is just the final manifestation of that dream Norm and I had when we were 15 I guess hahaha.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we have all known each other and worked on music in many different facets over the years.
4. Each band member favorite band?
Since the boys are now with me, I'll just list mine cause on this question I know I can't answer for them hahaha...First off though, I don't have a "Favorite". Music is too vast to focus on one.
I'd say bands in this genre or similar I like would be Dead Kennedys, Fear, and Cro-Mags. But its way to hard to pick even a few. There are so many good bands (Old and New). For instance, I love everything Frank Carter does. He truly is killing it right now!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
So the great thing about this band is how we have gone about writing. This EP was literally written and recorded in 6 hours from infancy to completion (minus a few hours of sprinkles in mixing such). We wanted it to be 'RAW" The energy you hear from those early recordings when it wasn't about high dollar studios or even elaborate song structure and playing. We wanted that real driving energy you hear. So we sat in a room, set up some mics on the drum kit and amps and just hit record. We just started throwing riffs and grooves at each other and after the first day (which was 6 hours) we had 6 songs tracked. All these songs are played "LIVE" start to finish with no recording tricks. I laid the main vocals after the initial live tracking and then we did some gang-style vocal stacking but its really close to a live recording. (No click tracks or recording punch-ins).
6. Where was your last gig?
Here in New Mexico
7. Where would you like to act?
As in perform? Everywhere and anywhere that wants us!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
As I said before I love what Frank Carter is doing, so working with him would be fun. Also getting to do some stuff with cats like John Joseph or even Henry Rollins would be interesting as well.
9. Whom not?
Taylor Swift
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I use to throw up before every show when I first started performing. Then it graduated into me having to go the bathroom before I went on stage, and then it evolved into me having to literally go take a power nap right before we hit the stage. Now it's totally relaxed and my happy place so I'm not nervous at all! (I bet Norm & Greg both have stories but they're not here to share lol) Advice would be just get up there and keep doing it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For this project/band we sat and listened to a lot of older late 70s early 80s bands and then also more current stuff. That's a big list so better to describe it as time periods rather than individual bands.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
No Comment !!! (First rule of Fight Club)
13. What do you think of your fans?
Anyone who appreciates the music we make is a great person in my book lol...I think its an amazing thing to have someone be affected by the music you make. That's a true honor and what it's all about !!!
14. What do you think of our site?
Thankful y'all do what you do, so cats like us can get out music to the world!
15. Something add?
Just look forward to everyone hearing this music and I hope you enjoy it! If not, I know I can speak for the boys and say "We don't care cause we are having a blast making the music together and your approval isn't why we are doing it) !!!
Thanks for letting me ramble !!!
