Interviews: BlackHawkDown
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock/Metal band BlackHawkDown from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
One fateful night at the flat of fun (FOF), located above a Blockbuster Video in the small town of Stamford, we were enjoying a particularly heavy session. We had been rehearsing for a couple of months preparing for our first gig but had yet to come up with a name everyone liked. People were throwing around ideas and Sharks missus suggested BlackHawkDown. It just came out like that, everyone loved it and it felt right!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We identify as genre fluid. Seriously. But even seriouser, we don’t really think we fit a particular genre. Our music is comprised of many different influences due to our members distinctive tastes. There is obviously cross over but as with rock and metal, we are a broad church and we fill many pews.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Where do we begin!? It’s complicated!
Marc: Brother to Lee, best friends with Ben from the age of five, recruiter of Andy
Andy: Recruited and immediately loved by all
Ant: Recruited
Ben: Best friends with Marc, constant irritation to Lee, HERO to Ant and Andy
Lee: Brother of Marc, friend to all
4. Each band member favourite band?
Marc: Godsmack today, Guns tomorrow, Metallica yesterday; it changes
Andy: Nine Inch Nails
Ant: Machine head
Ben: Guns N Roses
Lee: Nightwish
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Personal experiences, finding that big fat riff, the right harmonies or a face melting solo. Music is a big part of our lives and so the seeds for new songs come frequently but don’t grow to maturity without everyones care!
6. Where was your last gig?
The MET Lounge Peterborough, big shout out to Steve and Tori Lamour
7. Where would you like to act?
Our goals are modest but we would love to play iconic venues such as Rock City and O2 Academies Brixton & Hammersmith where we’ve seen our favourite bands perform. Donington Park Download and Bloodstock wouldn’t be bad either!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Opening for Alice in Chains! Loving FrogLeap, Dorje and Toska at the moment, it would be amazing to support those guys.
9. Whom not?
Ed Sheehan can fuck off.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Stare in to the lights, feel the groove, believe in your music.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Tool, Extreme, Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses, Alter Bridge, Periphery, 90’s Seattle/Grunge, Queen, Machine Head, Pantera
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Sex on Fire accompanied by sex. The request was made by Pinky, a horny 92 year old dwarf. True story.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Everyone we’ve met has been amazing. Like us, they are invariably a bunch of high functioning bastards; and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
14. What do you think of our site?
We’ve picked up our next weeks worth of playlist, you can’t ask for more than that!
15. Something add?
We once ran a competition to change our band name thinking BHD might clash with the superb blockbuster film BHD in organic internet searches. All the suggestions were awful and it made realise how much we love being called BlackHawkDown.Changing the band name was never a realistic option after all.
