Interviews: Abandoned Souls

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band, Abandoned Souls, from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We spent weeks trying to come up with a name that meant something to us and represented us. We all kind of came from the same background as far as growing up loving heavy music and being the long-haired kid in school. Being that kid was not exactly like the majority of kids. You generally looked for like-minded rocker kids to hang out with that share your interest in music. The band name is in reference to all those people out there that have at one time or another felt like the outcast, the oddball, not what society labeled as the norm. An Abandoned Soul if you will. Imagine that, a long-haired rocker not being the norm.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We are inspired by a lot of different types of music. The heavier music, however, always brought energy and a feeling that seemed so engaging and all-encompassing. It is a great way to let loose and express yourself in a way that really makes a statement. It just feels good!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Myself, Tom, and Reagan knew each other for years prior to this band. We knew of Derek from our local music scene but didn’t really officially meet him until we formed this band.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

James- Alter Bridge Derek- Avenged Seven Fold Tom- Rammstein (currently) Reagan- Can’t pick one specifically. He enjoys discovering new independent bands.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I get inspired by everyday life. Something I see in the news may spark thoughts that make it into a song. If I hear a story or see something that makes me feel something, it could make it into a song. After all, good songs should make you feel something. Things that do that for me are my inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

On Sat. Feb 8, we played our last show before everything shut down. It was in our hometown of London, Ontario at Union Ten Distillery. Ironically it was a show to celebrate the history and great memories of the iconic venue, Norma Jean’s in our hometown that closed down just a short time before. We had so many amazing gigs there throughout the years. Who knew that only a short time later, all shows everywhere would cease, and then more music venues would be lost. We had a great time that night with lots of friends and fans alike. We will never take these things for granted as it is a blessing to be able to do this

7. Where would you like to act?

At this point in time, we would be happy to play almost anywhere. It really sucks what is going on in the world right now and especially the negative effect it is having on the live music scene as well as all of the arts and entertainment industry. With that being said, we are happy to play anywhere that gives us the opportunity to put on the caliber of show that we are able to deliver and do it in front of people that love seeing live music.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We have played with so many great bands over the years. In a dream situation, I personally would love to play with Alter Bridge. However, any band that inspires us would be great to share a stage with. Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, King’s X(again), Godsmack, Alice In Chains.

9. Whom not?

Any band that has an attitude and feels they are better than the rest. We all are doing the same thing, just on different levels. Success doesn’t make one band better than another.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

There is always anticipation before getting on stage. A kind of excitement and energy that makes you feel a certain way. Maybe to some that is stage fright. To us, it is that feeling that makes you feel like something exciting and fun is about to happen.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As far as who inspires the type of music we play, for me, I would say, Alter Bridge, Godsmack, Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Shinedown, Alice In Chains, and many more.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

That’s not something we are able to talk about. Sworn to secrecy.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Lots of bands have said that, but it is the absolute bottom line. It is the best feeling to create music and have other people respond to what you created. To have them share the same excitement and energy for a song is pretty amazing. We appreciate our fans so damn much.

14. What do you think of our site?

It is a really great site. Thank you for doing what you do and for giving bands a forum to reach new fans. So much good stuff on your site. Keep up the great work.

15. Something add?

Thanks again for giving us this opportunity. We greatly appreciate it. Please check us out on our youtube channel as well as our social media pages. The video for Blinding Darkness will be featured on our channel starting at the end of next week (Oct. 16)
