Interviews: Nihilrage
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Nihilrage, from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or
came out just like that?
Nihilrage is a band that expresses a very direct idea, and we were looking for a name that
summarised that idea in one word. So we decided to join two words that represent quite good
what Nihilrage talks about: nihilism and rage.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Each one of us started our particular way into metal, thus finding out what we like most, which
differs among us. Our style is more like a fusion of each one’s favourite bands, resulting into a
style similar to technical death metal. But what’s more important is that it ended up being
something we love to do.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We are all from a small town so indirectly we knew each other, some more than others. But it
was when we started rehearsing when we began to know each other better.
4. Each band members favourite band?
Alex Moreno: Wintersun
Max
Schwarz: Opeth
Alejandro
Ciria: Tool
Alex Flaviu: Kublai Khan
Asier: Aeon
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Friedrich Nietzsche
6. Where was your last gig?
Although we had some gig with our previous bands, we haven’t made any gig with Nihilrage
yet. Partly due to the pandemic and also because we want to start giving concerts only with
our own songs. Soon we will have a complete album composed, so in addition to the EP, we
will have a great repertoire to play.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would be so thrilled if we could play in the greatest metal fests, such as Wacken, Download
or Hellfest, but it’s still a dream. For now, we want to make ourselves known on a regional or
national level, starting little by little. But we are also open to playing abroad, especially in
those countries where there is more death metal scene. That would be the perfect experience
for us!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We would love to share stage with all those who promoted the death metal movement such as
obituary, morbid angel or deicide. Appart from that, anyone would love to play with their
favourite bands or idols. That is a dream come true!
9. Whom not?
We know it’s a cliche, but with reggaetón artists.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for
begginers on how to beat that?
None of us has suffered from stage fright, just the typical pre-concert insecurities and nerves.
A Good tip is to drink a glass of beer before the concert, but just one!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For me (Max) it's been many bands from all genders that have inspired me in so many ways. If I
had to name one specific band, it would be Opeth undoubtedly. I have learned from Mikael
Akerfeldt that there is “life” beyond metal. The change that Opeth experimented from death
metal to a progressive style in Heritage (2011) opened my mind and started focusing and
listening to other music like jazz and prog. And that certainly marked a milestone in my music
taste. I still wonder how a man can growl like the devil and sing like an angel at the same time.
What an Idol...
12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We haven’t yet had the pleasure of experiencing madness or fanaticism
13. What do you think of your fans?
The best people.
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s a great initiative in order to help underground and little-known bands to get started in
music world. Music styles are currently very squeezed, thus it’s increasingly difficult to
innovate and create. Also, there are more and more music bands emerging due to
technological facilities, so the market is becoming so selective. It’s the law of supply and
demand!
15. Something add?
We are so happy with the results of this EP, cause it’s the first time we compose, produce and
record death metal music, and it turned to sound better than we had expected. However,
because of the confinement we weren’t able to get together as much as we would have liked,
and we have left behind some details that had to be improved. Right now we are working hard
in our first album (LP) with a clearer idea. It will release along 2021, so stay tuned for it!
On behalf of all the members of the band, we thank you for giving us this opportunity.
